Refrigerators use multiple solenoid valves to direct the water to the correct location. There could be a problem with the solenoid valve that controls the water to the ice maker or it could be maker itself not calling for water.

First make sure that the water line to unit is functional. then check out the solenoid that feeds the water to the door for operation. If it is not working there will never be any water appearing at door. And if solenoid is good the switch that sends it power may be non functional.

Push in turn counter clockwise pull out filter it may seem stuck but it will come out you should find it inside fridge.

I've done that before and there's no hope for it. Once you laid it down the freon got a air pocket in the compressor and it will no longer work. Guy from sears told me that laying them down ruins them.

Please check if the freezer door gasket is sealed properly. By switch do you mean the lever on the front of the door. Check also the small door where the ice cubes go threw. Make sure it is closed.

An ice maker has 3 basic tasks: 1. Call for water. 2. Freeze. 3. Harvest. Then the cycle repeats. There will always be some sensors that determine timing of those tasks. Home units usually have a bin level sensor (often an arm that's lifted as the bin fills) that can be locked in the up position to disable the ice maker. If it's calling for water but not freezing, make sure the condenser is clean. (Sometimes they look clean but are plugged in the middle.) It has to get down to nearly 0 degrees to efficiently make ice, if it's not getting cold enough you may need a tech to figure out why. Sometimes the drain can clog with ice. If this is it - simple fix. Empty the freezer and find the drain. Put hot water in the drain with a turkey baster or try using a hair dryer to thaw the ice and let the water drain. A small amount of water drainage through this drain is normal. The water sits in a tray underneath and evaporates helped by heat from the compressor. If the drain plugs, the water will build up in the bottom of the freezer and become an ice block.
