this happens yearly..usually it is the thermos couple needs cleaning..this year the pilot orfice itself was dirty and throwing a weak orange flame that was not even touching the thermo couple..I just gave the orfice a good cleaning and now the flame reached out as a long BLUE flame touching the thermo couple and it stayed lit on the first try

Blower won't run
usually a "humming motor" indicates either a bad capacitor or a defective motor. With the power off try to spin the blower wheel...it should spin freely. If it is tight or wont spin and there are no obstructions stopping it (like an air filter sucked into blower or other debris) then the motor most likely is seized. If the blower wheel spins free then you may have a bad capacitor. Keep in mind, just because the blower spins easy doesn't mean the motor is good. I have had motors that are defective that dont seize up but most of the time the blower wheel will not spin free if the motor fails.

My pilot lights and burns
Either you have a pressure problem due to a frozen regulator on your LP tank or the air intake for the burner is clogged with dust/lint and/or pet hair.
Let's start with the frozen regulator on the tank first. Soak a bath towel in hot water, ring it out and quickly wrap it around the regulator inside the top of bonnet (lid) of the tank. Leave it in place until it becomes cool. Go make inside, light the pilot, holding the pilot Control Knob for at least 1 minute. After 1 minute, ease off the Control Knob and turn the knob to ON. Watch the flames to see if they are higher than before and it continues to burn normally. If it does, you've solved the problem.
Since this freezing may reoccur (especially if you're in an extremely cold environment now). Go back out to the tank and wrap a dry towel around the regulator, in an effort to stop it from refreezing. If your tank is in a shaded area and doesn't get much sun throughout the day, it could refreeze again.
As far as the air intake on the burner is concerned. You will have to remove the front half of the cabinet of the heater to access it. But, before we get into that, do the other recommended solution first. If that doesn't solve the problem, get back to me and I'll give you the instructions on how to clean the heater.
Good luck ... Rich

The center ceramic segment does not glow red like
No, no flame adjustment, but that section of the burner, behind the plaque may be clogged. If you don't service your heater at least annually or have it serviced annually, more than likely that's the problem. Also, check the condition of the plaque in question. Depending on the age of the heater, it may simply be cracked or worn out.
If you discover it needs replacement you can order one from FMI (the company that bought part of DESA International after the bankrupted) by calling 868-328-6951, then press 2.. You will need to have the Model # & Serial # of your heater when you call.
