I am on my g3 and it is very slow

The speed performance of any computer is affected the amount of RAM memory and the amount of space of the primary hard drive that contains the operating system. So, check both items and upgrade both to the maximum that can be had. Back in the day, RAM was expensive so as configured by apple, iMacs came configured with minimal size. With RAM upgraded, the operating system more applications could be opened, which includes processes that run in the background. With the minimal RAM, OS 8, would hit the hard drive to swap pages of memory, rolling them in and out. Over time, the area used on hard drive would fragment, causing several read operations to assemble a page of RAM memory. This I believe was the era of using disk utility tools like Norton Disk Doctor to de-frag the hard drive. Also Tech Tools. So the easiest is to upgrade the RAM on the G3 iMac / Power Mac. Once you have upgraded the RAM, then you can then begin to upgrade the hard drive to the maximum size that your OS is capable of using. It has been so long ago I have forgotten what that value might be. I believe that the latest version of OS 8 was at revision 6 (8.6). In the latter days of the G3 power macs / iMacs, it was OS 9 (9.2). Some G3 CPUs could run OS X (10.2). The point being to upgrade RAM, hard drive space, and the Operating System. The larger capacity of the hard drive should delay the onset of fragmentation. Something to consider when upgrading the hard drive is to determine if your G3 computer is capable of using a solid state "hard drive". If you are able to do so, the speed performance is very impressive. Boot times are phenomenal. What may have taken a minute to accomplish now only takes 30 seconds. Go to www.youtube.com enter keywords Mac G3 SSD. View several videos that others have posted about their experiences. There is a video demonstrating this guys upgrades on a G3 "Graphite" IMac, boosted to 1 gig of RAM, and a 60 gig SSD. Impressive this old Mac. Take note of MacRumors dot com website, a great resource. In general, I check YouTube videos in addition googling any particular subject. I would suggest to upgrading to "Tiger" just as he did. As it relates to your WIFI, it is possible that your WIFI card is defective or is missing. If you are running OS 9, then you have to do some investigating. If you are running OS x, then go to to the pull down menu and select "About this Mac" then select "more" the begin to see if you show an airport card. It is "iffy" whether your internal WIFI card would be able to connect with the wireless routers of today. Something to consider is to acquire an old airport base station unit and have that connected to where you currently are connected directly to your Mac. Alternately you might want to scan the forums like at MacRumors for any discussion surrounding vintage Apple products as it relates to WIFI. The limiting factor then become the graphics co processor. The OS will offload processing work to the graphics card. The greater the memory capacity of the graphics card, the faster the performance. Another website I go to is: www.macsales dot com. The have technicians you can speak with concerning upgrades. I wish you success as you seek to increase performance to the maximum. You have an excellent opportunity to do most if not all of the upgrades yourself I normally go to www.ifixit dot come. To get instructions on proper tear downs on my G5 / intel iMacs.

Ibook power plug A184 not working

It probably the board itself. I had a problem like that with an old powerbook. If youre handy go to Mac Repair Mac Parts and Service for Apple Macbook iPhone iPad (well, click on the hypertext). They have videos that show you step by step how to get to that board. You can buy a replacement board from them, but i suggest ebay, theyre always the cheapest.

How do you reset power management on the ibook g3

For most situations, a restart is sufficient. If the computer has stopped responding, try these steps, in order, until the computer responds:
  1. Force Quit (Option-Command-Escape)
  2. Restart (Control-Command-Power)
  3. Force Shut Down (press the power button for 10 seconds)
Only perform a PMU reset on the computer if none of the above steps resolved the situation.

My ibbok 3g wont play dvds or youtube? help

Many iBook G3s came with optical drives for CDs only, not DVDs; and the decoding software for many of today's popular video formats runs extremely slow on all G3 processors. It's not clear that there is anything wrong with your computer other than its age. The first iBook G3 models were ten years old last February.

My G3 phone is flashing the apple symbol while powering up but isn't powering up.

Thank for contacting Fixya, I will be glad to assist you. What you can do, in order to resolve this issue, is start by resetting your iPhone 3G.(Note: this does not remove any settings, data or media you have installed in your device)• To perform a hard reset, press and hold your Sleep and Home Menu buttons for approximately 10 seconds.• Once your screen goes black, release both keys. (If you see a white Apple logo before you release the keys you have held the keys to long and will need to start the reset process once again)• The next screens you should see after the black screen, is the Apple logo screen followed by the main screen.• This hard reset process should help bring your iPhone 3G back to normal functionality. It would also be advisable to connect your iPhone 3G via its docking cable and provided wall socket adapter into a working wall socket in order to try and charge it.If your iPhone 3G still does not charge, try connecting it with the docking cable to your computer or laptop to observe if it will take a charge then.Should this process also not affect the way the iPhone charges, then you should look into using or purchasing another iPhone docking cable, as the cable itself may not be functional and needs to be replaced.Docking cables for iPhones are fairly inexpensive (Under $20) and can be found in most electronics/computer stores that carry Apple products and accessories. (Link: Apple Dock Connector)Finally, if a replacement docking cable does not help the iPhone 3G charge, this may be a hardware issue and you would be advised to take the iPhone 3G in to your local Apple retail store or Apple Authorized Service Provider in your area.Regards,-The MacTechTrainer

'mouse' will not work

Hi there LinwoodWhen you say mouse are you talking about the trackpad on the ibook? You can do a forced restart on the ibook by holding down the start key until the ibook restarts of course you will lose any changes that you have made to any documents you have open. However, by holding down the cmd key and the tab key together you can go a particular program by using the arrow keys, once in the program and the changed document that you have open by pressing down the cmd key and the s key together will save the changes. DO THIS BEFORE DOING THE FORCED RESTART.Hope this helps.

Hi, Somehow it has been set to boot from a net server of some type.Tyrn the Mac off then turn it back on while holding the ALT key down. After a moment or two you shold see a new start-up screen wich will show the globe that you see, but it will also show the internal HD as well.Wait until you get the pointer back, click on the HD and press return on the keyboard or the forward arrow on the screen. The computer should then start up from the internal HD.Once it is up and running , go to System Preferences (under the Apple menu) and select "Startup Disk".Click on the hard-drive icon and then close the window. That should set it correctly.Do another (normal) restart and make sure it works.Post back and let us know.

I cannot connect to the WIFI at work, but I can

Your laptop cannot connect to your work's wireless network because the security settings (ir WAP) in the D-Link is different to the security setting in your Netgear.
The wireless card in your laptop will need the settings changed to suit the D-Link's wireless settings ie the SSID and WAP.
You will need to change the wireless card settings in your laptop back to the Netgear's wireless settings to connect to your wireless network at home.
Some wireless cards allow you to set up different profiles for different wireless networks which allow you to switch wireless networks easily by just selecting the profile for the network you want to connect to.

YouTube videos play, but jump from scene to scene.

turns out you have an iBook G3. Your computer is really too outdated to be expected to play video properly. You can add more RAM but it really will only partially help you out. the G3 computers just aren't made for decoding streaming video, especially now that YT has HD video.
