Stand by button flashes but receiver wont turn on

I have vsx-d812 that has an AMP ERR in error menu. the troubleshooting was found to be Q696 and Q697 in the DC prot. area on "C" board, up near front toward diplay in center of c board. You can get access to error codes on VSX pioneer unit by pressing "enter" and "adv. surr." simultaneously for 2 sec. The display should show what error code you are experiencing. I believe there are three diff. error codes. 1) AMP ERR 2) OVERLOAD 3) BOAD ERR (not mistyped) I hope this helps pinpoint error code for ya.

Pioneer VSX-816

With the receiver off, press ENTER + ADVANCED SURROUND keys continuously for 2 sec. and it will tell you the fault it encountered. Even if it has a short, it will still protect the speakers; however, it is still a good idea to disconnect all speakers before doing this.

Pioneer VSX-816-k overheating problem...

Don't knock yourself out. Just install a good known working computer fan that works, hook it up to a 12 volt dc power supply that you hook up to receiver's switched power output, and the fan will turn on when you turn on the receiver. Voila, you are back in business.

Trying to fix my Pioneer VSX-816 and when I turn it on it says overload and shuts off. Nothing is plugged into it, and I suspect the STK412-230C chip or STK413-230C chip is bad. Is there any method

Unfortuneately no! Regardless, you are better off changing both because of the stress they were both put under. When you change one and not the other it is a matter of time before it goes completely taking the new one out along with it. It is important to check speaker wires for shorts, and speakers to be on the safe side.

My reciever continues to give me problems after 45

heat is the problem but the reason for the heat is the fan inside the unit is not working. I didn't even know there was a fan inside until I opened mine. The fan looked brand new The voltage off of the board where it hooks up is not correct or something so I hooked up the black to the middle pin where it hooks up and the red I cut and put under a screw(Grounded) the yellow is cut off. Mine works now and the speaker has not cut off since. I have left it on for hours and no more speakers cutting out. The fan is actually very quiet. but you can hear it.if it doesn't work make it so you will not overheat. Remember the fan plug the middle wire should be black the yellow can be cut away and the red needs to be stripped enough to go under a screw. I put mine under one of the screws that hold the fan in place. The front does need to be kinda removed so be careful not to break anything. and don't lose any screws. put it back together the way it came apart the front was not totally removed just enough to get to the fan screws. Its a little work but its worth it unplug your receiver before you go inside to avoid shock.

My daughter was trying not

Hi lorilawyer,

Looks like this issue is more on some settings that was accidentally changed on the system that's why you are getting no sound at all. To address this problem try a reset (if haven't been tried). Almost always, reset back to factory defaults clears error conditions. Just a disclaimer if you are going to do reset information including user preferences, presets and settings / configurations will be wiped out. Here's how you'll do the reset:

1. First, switch the unit to STANDBY.
2. Then, press and hold the TONE button and the STANDBY/ON buttons at the same time for about 3 seconds.
3. Next, as soon as the display shows "RESET", press ENTER;
4. As soon as OK? is displayed, press SETUP,
OK should now be displayed.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Vsx-816-k left channel cuts in

You likely have a cold solder connection on the circuit board. Inspect the board for loose connections for the left channel - use a non-conductive pointed object and poke the board on several places while the unit is power-up. Be careful not to get electrocuted. Compare it to the right channel circuit - they are almost identical. If the unit recovers the left channel while poking, then you have found the bad connection. Re-apply solder to that junction - make sure you've dis-connected the power and dis-charged all caps before you touch and repair the circuit board.

How to make a Pioneer vsx-816k/s last longer

I really don't recommend this product to anyone, or any newer pioneer products for that matter (except the elite line). This model has the "hybrid" design, which is a very flawed design. At first the speakers will start cutting in and out, and then some of them wont work at all, and then the receiver will flash "overload" and the receiver will go into a permanent protection, all because the receiver cant handle the resistance of the speakers(doesn't matter what speaker it is). Once in protect mode, press ENTER+ ADVANCED SURROUND and it will tell you what the problem is causing it to stay in protect mode. In order to keep this from happening, use external amps. Pioneer wants around 500 dollars to fix it if its out of warranty, it will cost at least 50 to fix it yourself, in most cases it will cost 150 to fix it yourself (most cases all 3 power modules will go out, or as pioneer calls them, power packs). If you have an older vsx model (50s-80s) then it is usually worth fixing. If your having problems with pioneer vsx 3600, 3700s, 3800, or 3900s, send me an email at [email protected] and i will help you the best i can
