I need to replace a
The battery in my CMM1000, purchased in 2003, finally gave up early in the summer of 2009. I bought a replacement battery at the local DeWalt store for about $140 including tax. The original battery was comprised of two Panasonic 12Volt, 20Amp-hour units in series. The replacement battery is comprised of two BR 12Volt, 17Amp-hour batteries in series. To replace the battery, simply remove two Torx screws toward the front on top of the black cover and two more, one on each side of the cover down next to the orange base toward the rear. It is not necessary to remove the two screws near the charge indicating meter. Cut the first two or three tiewraps holding the "throttle" cable to the push handle so as provide some slack. Lift the black cover up and over the height adjusting handle. Do that and everything else to be described here while working from the opposite side of the machine. The cover will not come all the way off and it is not necessary for it to do so. It will lift up far enough to allow removal of two pieces of styrofoam, one between the battery and the motor, the other between the battery and the inside rear of the housing, and the battery. The battery is held down by a fabric strap that is attached to the base of the machine with a screw on each side. Remove the one opposite the height adjuster. The battery will then be "loose" except for the two electrical wires that connect it to the machine. Lift and rotate the battery so as to present easy access to the terminals. I used my B&D drill motor with the appropriate socket to remove the flanged nuts retaining the cables. The battery can be removed from the machine once the cables are disconnected. Reverse the above procedures to install the new battery. Important note: The throttle cable has to go under the front styrofoam piece... the black cover will not go all the way down until the cable is in the right place. One might be tempted to push harder and that could lead to real trouble, so be sure the cable is under the styrofoam. The CMM1000 is an excellent machine in my opinion, and the ton or so that it weighs provides a good workout for me that I personally enjoy.
Where is the plug on the mower
Drain plug? mulch plug? spark plug?
This unit has none of these.
The charge plug is on the rear of the unit, you have to remove the rubber fuse block to expose the plug
Lawnmower won't start up
I have the EXACT same problem with my mower. I called the Black & Decker number listed above, and learned that the mower is under recall for this problem. So call them and find out where the nearest dealer is, and they will fix it for free.
I started mower in tall grass. It started up and
After charging the mower, you must place the safety key in the mower before it will start. On models that have a bail handle, be sure to pull the bail handle back to the mower handle before engaging the start lever. If your mower still does not start, remove the safety key and ensure the bail and start lever are in the "off" position. Then firmly re-insert the safety key, pull the bail handle to the mower handle and engage the start lever.
Note - It is important that the bail and start lever are returned to the "off" position before inserting the safety key.
Give it try, if it still will not operate you may have to take it in for service.
Good luck, let me know.

One good thing about electric cars or devices are they are mostly simpler than their gasoline counterparts. To check the motor use a multimeter and test the resistance and its continuity. Connecting the red wire to the positive probe and the black wire to the common of the tester. You should get low resistance from the motor. If by any chance you get infinite resistance or open circuit state, have the motor rotated and you should get varying resistance from 10-30ohms or close to that range. if that happens your motor is good and the problem may be on the circuit.
Have the brushes removed and inspect for physical damage and cracks. The copper conductor to which the brush rides to should be smooth. Open both ends of the motor to check on the plates. Check for the copper connections to the motor if there are breaks.
Motors starts but nothing else happens
Hi

Cannot remove blade from 18" electric mower
There are several parts that are in the blade to motor assembly, and it is possible one of those is broken. On at least some models one of the pieces is plastic and could have broken, another piece is a soft metal, it could have deformed, and a less likely possibility is the bolt's or motor shaft threads are stripped.
Please supply the year and model, that would help to determine possible causes.
If your mower is in good condition, especially the battery, I would either attempt disassembly and correction, or if you're not so inclined, locate a black and decker servicing center and have them fix it. Ask for an estimate and/or price to replace the parts once they've disassembled it, before committing to the fix, so you are not suprised with a high repair cost.
If it is too expensive to repair, you can likely sell the mower for parts. If so post back to this thread and someone may contact you to purchase the remains. If so be sure to post the age of the battery.
