How do i get trimmer line holder cap off my electric ryobi trimmer rlt 1038
Hi, I wished I had read this before I bought my rlt1038, I used it for 8 mins and 1) long grass caought around the drive head, 2) I tried to undo the screw holding the line head. Fortunately I have a wide pair of foot prints to go across the line head and a central heating pump adjustable spanner- after 5 mins I had undone it. Yet another bad design !Good Luck

Gas powered ryobi trimmer will not start
Hi
I found that the plug that came with my unit had an intermittent fault (sparked sometimes, then not all) definately the plug in my case. And yet at first, seemed to start OK, progressively got worse.
OK so youve changed the plug! Now check for spark....Can you see the spark if you pull the cord a few times
(you have to unscrew the plug from the head but leave it connected to lead & rest the plug against the metal cylinder surface using a pair of pliers to steady it and so you dont get a small shock)
If youre getting visable spark when you pull the cord, suspect fuel feed blockage from carb, Test by: Prime the bulb & turn to full choke, pul the start cord, Is there petrol vapour/odour present within the cylinder with the spark plug removed.
Check also gauze air filter behind the roto choke knob is clear, on/off switch (could be damp wd40) Test compression put your finger over the open plug port, plug starter cord, should be a little pressure build up
Hope this helps

Starting problem with a Ryobi rlt30ces petrol strimmer
Hi
I have had the similar problem & spent a day stripping the unit down
(dismantled & re-assembled the carb, seemed OK fuel reaching & flooding the plug) I unscrewed the spark plug from the body, but left it connected to the lead and found that there was intermittent spark when pulling the cord. and tested it with a continuity meter - no signal/measurement. bought a new spark plug, meter reading showed signal/measurement, now starts every time. It may be that Ryobi has been installing rather cheap nasty plugs. So test the plug first by watching the spark when pulling cord, test with a meter, if no continuity, buy new plug....
Check also that little gauze air filter behind the roto choke is not blocked.
this solved it for me.
Please remember to give me a rating ...ta

I believe my Ryobi 12 VoltBattery Line trimmer need a new battery
First, check to see if the charger is working properly. To do this, recharge the battery for about 15 minutes. Then check to see if it now runs the trimmer. If so, then you have a bad battery. You can go on the WEB and find a replacement. These batteries or sensitive to heat and cold. When storing, try to place it in a comfortable environment. Sorry for your loss. If it still under warranty, check with the Co.

My ryobi 4cycle x-pand it
The machine will need to be disassembled to get to the problem, diagnose and repair. One thing you can try is pulling the cord with the spark plug out. Other than that, disassembly will be required at least to the point to determine the engine isn't locked up.
