I lost my power adapter for my simple tech 1tb 96300-41001-172, what is the voltage, amp rating as well as what pole is the +?thanks.

Open it up and look inside. Some enclosures use screws others use plastic clips which may require a tool thinner than a credit card to release the clips. The Internal Drive...Is it a 2.5" drive that runs on 5 volt or a 3.5" drive that uses combined 12 volt & 5 Volt power supply. These drives don't use much current. 1 to 2 Amp The adapter may have had a single voltage output for 2.5" drives or a dual voltage supply for the 3.5" Probably 12v or 5v Anyhow, there are lots of hard drive empty enclosures that can be bought... as hard drives internally use a standard connection for data & power. Just swap the internal HD over to a new enclosure. Hope this Helps Trevor

How do i reset a simpletech external drive?

The receiver should do that automatically when you hook it up. They usually have a propriatary format that you cannot access yourself.

I plugged in my simpletech hard drive and it heated up and now doesn't work

That can be extremely difficult if not impossible. It is definately not a DIY job and few professionals can even do it. You need someone who is a computer hardware expert and someone who is an expert at retrieving data from a dead drive. There are few people who can do that, good luck.

Why is my 160 not working?

no a hard drive does not have a battery to retain memory, its magnetic storage, when you plug it in do you hear it spin up? make sure your power pack is 12v at 1500-2000mah if its not the power pack check that your cable works, if the disk drive doesn't spin up there is a chance it is damaged but usually unlikely

Do you have a file viewer for an old backup

It all depends on what software was used to back up the drive and what operating system you was using. The best way would be to restore the backup to a madeup directory and view and delete what ever you like. If you can elaborate further, please do. Tony

How do you erase files?

With great difficulty. Either physically destroy the device or overwrite the file and all references, backups etc by overwriting the file many times with random data.

Driver no longer installed , not sure what happened what can i do

This is a great program I've recently discovered.http://drp.su/download.htmDrivers Solutions Pack. There is a Lite version, a Full version, and in the middle of the page, We Recommend: Download Driver Utilities to Update Drivers If you're not familiar with CD Burning, I'd reccomend the Driver Utilities program too. It's all free. Only problem I've had is with Dell Integrated Sound Driver, which they don't seem to be able to fix.

Does not respond to my PC anymore

Hi Dan, Perhaps you should start with reading this Problems with SimpleTech eHow It may not be of much help. In what way doesn't it 'respond to your computer' ? Presumably you are using an MS Windows O/S, not an Apple ? You don't say. Presumably it is not showing up in Windows File Explorer/File Manager ? Again you don't say. Try using another (different) USB port(socket) on your computer. Try using the disk on another computer to tell you whether it's the disk or your PC. Assuming it's your PC, and that hasn't worked, enter the DiskManagement utility. You should see your system disk (boot disk) and possibly the external disk as well. Right click on the SimpleDrive disk, and select 'Delete Partition' if appropriate, else go straight to 'new Partition'. I am going to tell you to reformat your disk. You will lose any data that it contains (now is a good time to remind you to ALWAYS keep BACK-UPs of your data). DO NOT REFORMAT YOUR SYSTEM DISK. Select ' New Partition' if you want to proceed with this operation, and follow the instructions, selecting the appropriate letter to assign to the disk. After about 1hr assuming USB 2, it will finish. The disk should now be visible in File Explorer. You might also try, ensuring you have only this disk connected to your PC on the USB system (I'm assuming that is how you're connecting the disk to your computer, you don't say), entering DeviceManager, and going to USB Devices, expanding that entry. Now double click on the entry which says 'Mass Storage', and click the button which says 'Uninstall Drivers' (you may have to click the drivers tab to see this button). It will ask you if you are sure, click yes. After it has done this, disconnect the drive and reboot your computer. Now plug your drive into your PC by the USB port again; hopefully it say towards the bottom right ;new hardware found', 'installing drivers for your new hardware', and finally 'your new hardware is installed and ready to use'. 10.April.2014
