let me read all 3 posts, why not just have one and comment to one? symptoms for all, do nor read posts from folks telling you to find fuse clips seen in 1980s, PC, forget that. this is all SMD parts. wiki that....

• previous owner used a AC/power pack and blew up this LT..
• its 19vdc not 24vac, or you WILL BLOW IT UP.
• fixing that if true is non trivial to say the least.
• it will not power on with battery removed, and with correct 19vdc pack attached,
• or it does turn on sometimes but locks up in XP screens.
• This is a 13 year old LT. so fixing one this old is dicey.
• (reason is XP is dead OS and parts hard to find)
• why look for fuses. if a fuse works on 1 boot why would it fail 2nd boot? answer its not a fuse its dream of a fuse. (hope)
• Does BIOS screens work,
• Does using a DT screen on the rear 15p, VGA port work can the external screen be made to work.
• Does booting to any bootable CD work, HP windows install or live LINUX cd, or window live PE CD work. if yes the LT is ok
• just has bad OS or BAD HDD.
• Power dead totally and 19vdc on the MOBO input pins
• is a dead mobo, no BIOS,on both screens, 19vdc in is a dead mobo. The fuse if present are SMD fuses F1,F1, if mobo marked, L1, L2, those are inductors not fuse... nice try though.

hmmm my sussgestion in yourr case is that, don't attach all things at once. do the following step bye step.

Step 1). Attach SMPS (power supply to the board), Front Panel Connectio, and an in built speaker and CPU (don't add RAM, HDD, FDD, VGA Card or any thing els)

Power on and watch/Listen carefully:

Case 1: if you can hear a long beep, then your CPU and board is OK

Case 2: No beep means CPU or board is faulty. Try to Reconnect CPU again and do step 1.

Step 2) Now power off and add RAM only.

Power on and watch/Listen carefully.

Case 1: if you can hear the ok beep it means till now your RAM is Ok
otherwise clean your RAM connection and add it again.

Further you can add your VGA, HDD CD-ROM/DVD, PCI Devices etc. and easily short-out your problem.

Rich, there is no info on that number. I need the name & model# of the computer it came out of. If it is a Compaq, then it is old and may be difficult to find, but we can't go anywhere without that info.

If you post what model I would suggest what link with let you download the appropriate drivers and if that doesn't work next step will be disassemble the computer and replace the speakers itself and the last solution would be change the motherboard as it will bring bring new working audio port on it.
