Try doing a Reset. Reset Printer Canon PIXMA MX310 or Canon MP160

1. Leave the cartridges in the device.
2. Turn off the printer using the on/off button.
3. Keep the reset button pressed and press the on/off button now also. ...
4. Release now the on/off button. ...
5. Now open the printer and press the On / Off button. ...
6. Now the printer with the on/off switch off button and turn on again.

I have the exact same issue with my Canon Pixma MG3650 Series, It will not print a straight line at all its doing zig-zags all the way down the paper it's crazy I recommend you print this picture below to make sure that your printer is not faulty If it prints it Wonky or anything I recommend you open your cartridge tray & use a tissue to wipe off excess ink.

I got this Error 2,114,0 with my MP210 and none of the above fixes worked. This is how I have got it working again: Press and hold the maintenance (picure of spanner and screw driver) button and the reset button ( Inverted red triangle) together for five seconds or more. The flashing error code 1 and 6 will then stop flashing and replaced by a print copy no 1. The printer/scanner is reset and the scanner works.

Firstly, it might be important to note that the waste ink absorber is a little pad that sits under the cartridge's "home" position and collects any loose ink that may be on the cartridge. This prevents smudges, so it's a good thing to have. Many ink jet printers have them, but as far as I know, only Canon PIXMA printers display an error when a certain internal counter suggests that the ink absorber may be full. If you've done a lot of printing, the ink absorber may actually be full and you might need to have it cleaned or replaced to ensure the best printing quality. However, if you haven't printed that much or you have and you just need to print something right this minute, there is a way to reset the counter and stop the error from showing up again. Until the counter reaches a certain unknown point, that is, in which case you'll have to repeat the procedure.

1. Turn off printer.
2. retaining button Resume/Cancel press button POWER - indicator it will catch fire by green color.
3. let go button Resume/Cancel, continuing to retain POWER.

Im pretty sure you should add the printer before downloading the driver. Try uninstalling driver, install printer, the install driver. If it came with software it's better to use it.

Have you tried to disconnect the printer and then reconnect it?

Uninstall with MS control panel, then reinstall. Make sure that it will work with Vista first.

Hi Pam please don't take this the wrong way but I think it's time you updated your operating system to one that receives support and updates. The problem you have is compatibility between programmes and I don't think there is a cure. Windows 7 or windows 10 should be what your looking for.. good luck !
