Kodak EASYSHARE 5300 All-In-One InkJet Printer - Page 5 Questions & Answers
I am trying to print
spacey49442,
It could be a corrupt file and certainly would not cause any problems to download and install the newest driver from the Kodak website. I have a tip at
http://www.fixya.com/support/r6370947-install_printer_without_install_cd which will walk you through the process. The newest driver may have some features you do not have now.
If this does not solve your problem I would change the cartridge with a new unit. If you have been printing for several days the ink cartridge could be empty or the heads could be plugged. Ink cartridges do not last very long when printing pictures due to the high resolution used. This uses up the ink at a high rate. Also if you think about it, pictures have ink across the entire page, unlike a word document which only has a small amount of type.
Thanks for using FixYa and the great rating.

The print head replacement procedure is detailed (with pictures) in a .PDF document that may be viewed (or printed for later consult)
here. The document is from Kodak and is "official".
You need Adobe Reader to view or print this document. It can be freely downloaded (and used) directly from
Adobe's site.

Bypassing printer warning that stops my printer
this one is one of my favourite hate printers... but, no you cannot disabel this function easy, you can "fool" this printer by following that procedure:
1. switch off your printer, wait few sec, switch it on
2. on your computer go to "start"
3. select "control panel"
4. select "printer and faxes"
5. right click on your "kodak easyshare 5300"
6. select "properties"
7. click on tab "services"
8. select "service this device"
9. click on tab "estimated ink level" - it shows estimated ink level after restart
you can use refill (very easy to do by yourself and about 1/3 cost of original replacements). and yes, you are right, cartridges do tend to dry out. i would suggest printing at least one page per week to prevent dry out of the cartridge.
as this particular printer will not work without both cartridges present. i would suggest to insert one empty cartrdge in colour slot and keep it there. on full cartridge use any sticky tape to prevent nozzle from drying, cover breather hole on the top of cartridge as well. when you need to print, remove tape from breathing hole first and then from the nozzle. this way you will prevent or at least slow down your cartridge evaporation ratio.
My kodak 5300 black ink keep saying replace black
Black printer ink in kodak Printer may fail to be recognized by the printer. Most times an error message will be sent indicating that something is wrong with the black print cartridge. Sometimes the printer may accept to print with the black ink, but the printouts may have horizontal lines and very illegible letters. In such a case a manual cleaning of the print head should be carried out. In doing the manual cleaning, one should spray Windex heavily on paper towel and wipe off the surface of the print head.

Common problem with Kodak print heads. And since you're done with the troubleshooting and is likely very familiar with the printer and its problem, definitely the print head is going bad again.

Poor print quality. No
Mostly, printer cartridge error occurs when the printer head is unable to identify the cartridge properly. And the basic reason behind this is that the cartridge is improperly attached.
To reattach the cartridge check the following steps :
turn on the lid of the printer and then remove the cartridge from the printer head.
Check the cartridge to make sure that there are no scratches or other damaged parts that can contribute to a printer cartridge error report.
Take note that the cartridge should not be left open for more than 30 minutes; otherwise the ink will start to dry up and the cartridge will get clogged.
Printer will not print. New black ink cartridge.
Printers that execute high quality images cannot (actually will not) allow printing when the other printer cartridges are almost gone or gone. This is a built in defense against the printer heads drying out and much servicing and expense.
You simply do not own a printer of any kind and allow the color cartridges or black cratridges to run out (or even get close) without having th replacement cartridge at hand for immediate installation.
This is how the printer manufacturer protects itself from costly warranty repairs and lawsuits.
Go immediately and buy the color ink cartridge and install it.
Black is the presence of all colors
White is the absence of all color
Your printer must draw in tiny increments from the color certridges to keep the heads functioning when you predominantly use black printed documents.
Science strikes again.
For God's sake, please do NOT leave me 2 thumbs up and trash my rating incrememntally because you aren't happy about this.

TheSelkie
