Hello you need to update your map Purchase your map updates (if necessary). You can purchase map updates for your Garmin Nuvi from the Garmin website. There are two basic options: a lifetime purchase or a one-time upgrade. The lifetime purchase gives you access to any new updates for the life of your device, while the one-time upgrade will provide you with the latest current maps, but you'll need to purchase again if you want to upgrade again later. Make sure to log in with your myGarmin account before purchasing the map upgrade. Connect your Garmin Nuvi to your computer via USB cable. Open the "myGarmin" website and sign in with your Garmin account. Make sure to sign in with the account that you've purchased the map updates on. Click the "myMaps" tab on the myGamrin dashboard. This will load a list of all of your purchased map upgrades. Click the drop-down menu in the "Recent Map Purchases" section. Select your Garmin Nuvi from the list of devices. Install the Garmin Communicator Plugin when prompted. This is required in order for the Garmin website to transfer the map files to your Gamrin software on your computer. Garmin Nuvi 610- working perfectly then sudden

Check the audio output setting on the nuvi. There is a possibility that the FM Transmitter setting has been turned on or that the device has been muted.
To check the audio output setting:
  1. Touch the Speaker icon below the Wrench icon.
  2. At the bottom of the screen, touch Audio Output.
  3. Make sure that the Internal Speaker is selected and touch OK (660, 670, 680, and 5000 models only).
  4. Make sure that the MUTE box does not have a check mark in it. If it does, touch the box to clear the selection.
  5. Make sure the volume level is at a reasonable percent level.

Garmin troubleshooting

your maps are broken, If you purchased the updates you can just run Garmin Express, otherwise you would need to purchase an update (49.99) or retire that 7 year old GPS. As expensive as the updates are, you may consider upgrading.

Master pin reset

We've received many emails from GPS users who say they have lost their PIN code. For those of you that don't know what a PIN code is: Some GPS manufacturers provide a feature, which allows the GPS owner to assign a unlock access code or PIN to their GPS. The PIN is designed to prevent your GPS from being used by an un-authorized user. It was also meant to be used a a deterrent to thieves, making the GPS useless if stolen. When you set up the PIN, you will be asked to enter in a code. After you enter the last digit, you will be asked again for the code. This is to make sure that both entries match and verifies that the PIN that you requested will be the one written into memory. Your PIN is written into non-volatile memory..... it's not a file that is accessible via USB communications between the GPS and a PC. You can't clear it by disconnecting the power or disconnecting the battery or letting the battery run down. There is no jumper or switch inside the GPS to reset it, so don't waste your time tearing your GPS apart in an attempt to clear it. Now, after you set the PIN, you will be asked to set the "secure" location. This can be anywhere.... your work location, home, local gas station, school, etc. In order to set the secure location, your antenna must be up and you have to have a satellite lock. If you don't have a lock, the "set" key will be grayed out until you acquire a lock. The secure location is your "back-up key" in case you forget your PIN. If you have forget your pin, all you have to do is physically go to the secure location. Make sure your antenna is up and that you have a satellite lock. When you are in the secure location, your GPS will NOT ask you for the PIN when you turn it on. You'll then be able to reach the main menu and change the PIN and secure location to something else if you desire. If you have forgotten both the PIN and secure location, you are out of luck. You'll have to send your unit back to the manufacturer to have it unlocked. The manufacturer may charge you for this service. Note: If you do send the unit back to the manufacturer to be unlocked and you are found not to be the original & rightful owner of the GPS and it's determined to be stolen, the manufacturer may contact law enforcement (they're policy on this is right on their website under FAQ's).

Lost pin code

Your nuvi has Garmin Lock activated, a security feature to make the unit useless to thieves and to protect your data if the unit is lost.

Unless you know the security location used when the pin code was set, or can remember (or ask the last owner for) the pin code, then your unit cannot be used without sending it back to Garmin (proof of original purchase required)..

Keeps shutting down - even

Honestly you need to contact Garmin you definitely have a internal problem. It sound like have a component breaking down internally. Garmin will charge you to look at it if you are out of warranty with them, it might be worth it to have them tell you what component is breaking down. Their website is www.Garmin.com I would suggest you contact their tech department. Its not something that can be fixed with out the correct diagnostic equipment to pinpoint your problem. They have diagnostic software Im sure that will tell you what is wrong internally with your GPS. I have dealt with them in the past too and they are easy to work with and very helpful.

I hope this helps you out, if so leave me some feedback.
