37mf321d won't turn on- no busted capacitors
Hey Superdave,Does the whole tv turns off when the picture turns off ??? What you're describing sound like a defective CCFL backlight. This would make since why someone threw it out because the repair estimates of replacing the bulbs would knock your socks off. Most will suggest ordering a new LCD panel assembly which would cost way more than what the set is worth. On some sets, when a CCFL is out, the screen will come on for a few seconds then go out. On other sets, after so many "lamp failures" logged in memory, the set will not power up at all and just flash trouble codes through the power indicator.
Im having the problem with my philips 37 in lcd tv
Hi,
The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply
board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may
have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power
supply or power surge.
The TV is receiving current but cannot
circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV
because of the defective power supply board. You might be lucky it's
just a blow fuse. Also a defective transformer can cause your TV not to
power on.
All these can be checked on the power supply board.
But
more often bad capacitors causes problem on the power supply board. I
do not think the power board needs replacement, rather those defective
capacitors is causing this issue. Open unit up and take a look at the
power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter
capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the
others.
The value of these capacitors will be different, most
likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V
sometimes)
You can replace them with same values but I would
recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V)
for reliability purposes.
What happens is,these bulged top
capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will
malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding
enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).
You
can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can
order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for
electrolytic capacitors). After replacing these capacitor(capacitors)
most likely the normal operation will be restored. Or you can by a
refurbished complete power board to save you some stress from
www.shopjimmy.com.
Note: There may be also some other causes for
this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged
top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.
If you
don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to
fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so
wait a while before opening the TV back cover.
I hope this helps.
Regards.
Everyday the sound goes out
solution
Step 1 :At fast check your speaker.
Step 2 :Test the ON/OFF volume switch.
Step 3 :Test audio IC for pcb.
What kind of compacitors do
Hello
I actually don't understand what you mean by this question. About which capacitor do you mention about? For which section of your TV you want the capacitor? There are so many capacitors used in different sections, and have different capacitance values, and in idfferent voltage ratings. Without knowing the section, I can't give you advice to this post. Reply with details by Fixya please.
Turn itself off as soon as you turn it on
in the lcd tv there are three main parts
1)the inverter board(pannel)
2)the main board .
3)the power supply board.
----------
if there is no power at all them main board is faulty.if no front led light is coming ON there is no power .so the main board is faulty.on the main board there is a fuse located you have to replace that and check first if still no power main board needs to be checked and replaced
---------------
if there is sound but no picture and front led light is ON then its inverter board panel problem.if this is your case replace inverter panel.its located in the lower side of the lcd in the inner area below the main board.
-----------
but if there is just front led light blinking , but no picture or sound then its power supply board problem.
------
but as you mentioned that the tv turns ON for some seconds then automatically turns off this indicates that the power supply board is not faulty but there is a component on the board that is getting over heated because its got weak so due this overheating of a component the circuit gets short and tv shuts off.
on power supply board there are some capacitors and ic located.if any of the component gets short or budged up then it short the power supply board.so you can check the components on power supply board with multimeter and get it replaced by using soldering iron.
----------
also you can get new replaCEment power supply board.this clears the problem completely.
---------
you can get the required board and components at ----- www.partstore.com -------- or from ------ www.radioshack.com ----
---------
if you are not familiar with doing this you can get it done by local tv repair technician familiar with this model tv.
-----------
This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya.
Not powering up right away
This is a big problem with these tv's. Magnavox built them with undersized capacitors, and they blow. You have to open the back, remove the power supply and replace the capacitors numbered 2074 and 2081. This sounds like a real tech job, but read my other solutions, and you will see it is not so hard. Good luck.
TV WONT COME ON
I had the same problem. Take the back off the TV.....disconnect power supply first....
You probably will find a cooling fan on the right side that is froze up. Get a Strong vacuum, clean it until it turns freely. The TV will now work unless you have other problems.
