Two thing can cause this problem.
1. The screen resolution is set too low. Try changing the screen resolution to 1024X768
2. If you cannot alter the screen resolution then the video driver was not installed or the wrong viseo driver was installed.

You can download any/all the Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site from their download page. Make sure you enter the model of your laptop so you can get the correct drivers. Use this link: -

For that you need recovery disk.
Put that disk in cd/dvd rom.
Then when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios.
Then go to boot option then set first boot device as your cd/dvd rom then save settings and exit.
Then it boot with that recovery disk then follow the procedure and choose "R" for recovery console then type in prompt "chkdsk /r"
then press "y
then it fix error on harddisk.
Then check if still same blue screen then you have to repair your windows. For again boot with disk then repair your old windows.
Let me know if you need more assistance.

Common problem on all brands, the very cheap lil jack on the mainboard is broken loose ,best to replace with new one, considering the time to disassemble the entire laptop to make this repair. Some on the net do it for around $100.00

From what I've read on this, it seems to be a hard disk problem. Try to get a diagnostics boot CD (a linux distro). Check the hard drive for errors before using your recovery disks.

Did you change the hard drive by chance? If so, check this link:

The reason why it overheats is because you're using a AMD processor which tend to heat up much faster then Intel processors
I recommend you to downclock the processor speed .2 Ghz and buy a notebook cooling pad.
They cost anywhere from $10-$60 and stop your laptop from overheating.
Also it's not good to have your laptop on too long (5 or 6 hrs. is max).
To clean the fan your best bet is to use an compressed can of air. Some people like to use a vacuum, but it can give you problems with static electricity. If you are going to open up the case, be sure to look into safety measures, like wearing a safety bracelet. Even when unplugged, computers can be dangerous. The heatsink is located on top of the processor inside the computer

First of all if it will let you press F2 and see if you can reset the BIOS to default configurations. Hit F10, save the changes and exit the BIOS.
The computer will restart and hopefully boot to the operating system boot screen.

If it's still freezing on post then remove the battery and the AC power supply. Turn the laptop over and locate the RAM (memory) cover and remove the holding screw.
Take out the system memory and clean the brass contacts, also clean the slots that the memory sits in.
Re-seat the memory making sure it clips into place nice and tight and replace the RAM cover.

Return power to the laptop and turn it on to see if that has helped.

Good luck.

Try starting the unit in safe mode and see if the CD/DVD drive is their.
Make sure you don't have another device conflecting with the drive.
If the drive is seen under safe mode, you have a program conflect. Which means, the driver for the CD/DVD drive is being bumpted by another device or loading driver.
Try it and get back to me with a answer.

Yes you can. It only takes removing the face from the laptop by removing 5-6 screws on the back side. However if you'd like to save your self a lot of aggrivation. You can purchase a PS2 to USB converter cable and just plug in any keyboard to it and your back in buisiness. The cable is about $13.00- $15:00 at Staples, RadioShack or Best Buy.
