Amana XRSS287BB side by side fridge freezer (3 years old)

The evaporator fan stops working and fridge and freezer lose temperature.
The compressor starts running and a clicking noise comes from the top right hand side of the freezer (ice dept) and the fan does not come on.
The low temperature warning lights and alarm actuate and all the food in the freezer has defrosted!!
The freezer seems to be going into auto defrost irregularly.
Can you tell me what the problem is?

Amana Side-by-Side refrigerator hot spot

I have an Amana Side-by-Side refrigerator that is hot along the front of the separator wall between the freezer and refrigerator sections. This model does not have an ice maker, there are no leaks, and the compressor and fan appear to be operating normally. The both sections (freezer and refrigerator) work fine, but the freezer does not seem to be working at the best efficiency; water in ice trays freezes, but ice cream becomes soft. The hot spot is hot to the touch, meaning that you cannot keep your hand on it without pain.

hi tanks for the question there are heaters at the spots you said were hot and those heaters are there to prevent moist air from hitting cold surface and create warer droplets from forming on those surfaces i would remove the back of the fridge and vacuum it out that should solve your problem thanks the appliance doc

Water solenoid to ice maker not working. Check with ohm meter..should NOT read open
Water line to Ice maker frozen solid. Look at water inlet to ice maker....is ice present in line?
Evaporator coils frozen over with ice. Will cause water line to freeze and unit will slowly thaw.
Try unplugging the unit for several hours and see if it starts to cool normally again. If it cools normally then check heater element and Defrost Thermostat.

yes the evap fan in the frezer should be running when the compressor is running[it may not for a minute or so as it starts up.Amana's are good for the connectors at the evap fan motor comming apart.the connectors are white and will look like its together but when you pull it will come apart.i would always cut the connector out and use a wire nut so wont happen again.if any other questions please email thru FixYa and i will be glad to help. God bless ,tom

Operating pressures for 134A refrigerant system

What are the normal high side and low side pressures for an average domestic refrigerator using R 134A refrigerant that is working as it should?

I would go for 40 on the suction and 150 discharge, or divide the locked rotor current by 6 and charge so the current is 1/6 of the locked rotor current of the compressor, or by temperature/pressure relation 110* discharge and 35* suction, or get the suction line sweating. The best way is to remove all the refrigerant and then weigh the refrigerant the system is designed for on these critical charge appliances.

whats the working pressure of R134a in refrigerator

what is the working pressure low and high in domestic refrigerator using R134a

That question does not have a simple answer. The pressure is directly related to the temperature. You can go on line and get a table showing the pressure vs temperature. I would think 0 is a good starting point for the return temperature. High is also related to temperature. I would expect the high to be about 135 but that depend on ambient etc. You may have to have a licence to tap the refrigeration system and purchase gas depending on your locaton.
Good Luck,

What is the high and low side pressures on the

What is the high and low side pressures on the 134A compressor of my amana side by side refrigerator / freezer?

Answer

Good day,
The low side (suction pressure) is pretty nominal at 2 to 4 lbs.
The high side should range from 120 to about 14 lbs. depending on load and ambient temperature.
This would be after 15 minutes running time. Doors closed. Rear panel on as well as can be attached with gauge hoses protruding.

Pried the door open breaking the little white

Pried the door open breaking the little white piece that holds the door when the washer is in process is the an inexpensive way to fix?

The cheap way is also the dangerous way. Without the safety lid switch the washer will keep spinning when your little girl opens the lid and reaches inside and gets pulled in or her arm broken. You can bypass the switch by taping the two wires together.

For just a few dollars you can buy a new switch and install it yourself.
