Hi i have a servis

Try clearing everything away from the bottom venting in the freezer and check for ice build up in the vents. Defrost it like you would in the "good old days" and to ensure it doesn't happen again, keep a 1" to 2" clearance in front of the vents in the freezer. If need be, set a cookie cooling rack on it's side to act as a barrier for the vents to ensure proper air flow.

Freezer making a grinding noise on and off

If it is a metal to metal grinding noise it could be a warning of a potential compressor failure. BUT try to localize the sound before you panic! It could also be one of the fans wobbling or rubbing against the housing.

Why are there white flakes in the ice from my icemaker?

The flakes are contaminants (minerals) in the water. Typically a sign of hard water, such as well water. A GOOD filter is highly recommended to control the contaminants, and must be replaced often for best results. Most hardware outlets as well as appliance dealers offer filters just for this application and should make the ice taste better. While the minerals are usually harmless and some even claim they're beneficial, you should have your water tested periodically if on a well just to be safe.

My refrigerator door is not closing tight - and

Definitely a clogged drain line. you will need to remove the back wall and pour hot water into the bottom middle in the back of the freezer compartment, one glass at a time, until it drains through to the drip pan at the bottom of fridge. It is a messy job but the results will save a good fridge.

Good Luck

Sience hurricane irene my refrige is not working

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
But is probably a common defrost problem The ice build up
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
Check Temp inside freezer. It has to be down to about 10 or 15 degrees
This can cause slow ice making if its too high even tho its freezing everything else at 25 degrees
See if water is in icemaker.
Pour water in Ice Maker and wait to see if it ejects.
If it ejects thenyou need to replace water valve in rear bottom of fridge(Its the part that
attaches to water line out of wall)
If it doesn't eject then it is a faulty Ice Maker.
If its leaking or no water at icemaker or door either one, then the valve at the rear bottom of ref needs replacing
First I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also if it is getting drinking water to the door but not to the icemaker (or vice versa) Then you need to replace
the water valve at the bottom rear of the fridge. It is a double valve and one side is not working
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.

How do you add a switch to disable the thaw cycle

while i do not reccomend doing this since more energy is used in running the components to make is cool (compressor, compressor fan & freezer fan) all 3 must run to keep it cool while the defrost comes on for 25 minutes about once every 4 days as compered to the cooling components running a average of 24 hrs during the same time span as compared to 25 minutes is to disconnect teh wires from the defrost heater behind the freezer back wall

ps if you read this and give me a bad rating i do not care

Good morning: I used you trouble

HI,
It is possible your fan motor in the freezer has failed and by not moving air into the upper chamber can cause frosting on the back wall of the freezer. Also lack of air movement can cause your air returns to seal shut with ice and still not work if your fan is replaced. The part number your will need is 63001057 for the fan motor itself. I would verify all air ports are open when you replace the fan motor. It not a difficult job, access would take a bit to get into the back wall of the freezer to replace the motor. Amana has been known to use fan delays to pre-chill evaporator before allowing the fan to run, if our model does this, the thermostat in the freezer would need to be checked also. When the thermostat closes, it sends power to the fan motor to run, if it fails, fan does not work. I would check this prior to ordering of replacing the fan.

Yes it is ok.... you need to actually create heat to create cold... It's the law of thermodynamics... refrigeration is actually the removal of heat not the creation of cold... pretty deep huh?!
