Roller brush won't spin (bissel 6390/3910 series)

I just fixed mine. It took me all of 10 minutes. Pull the brush out. Stand the brush on end on the edge of your study work bench/table top. while holding the brush vertical( on end) take a small phillips screwdriver and tap using a hammer on the metal pin you see in the middle of the brush. Keep tamping and the whole assembly will come apart. What you will have then is a long metal shaft, 2 bearings(they are acutally skateboard wheel bearings same number same make). Clean the gobbed up hair with a razor blade and then reassemble by tapping back together. The bearing wont be worn out because they are way too tough for a vaccum. We used ride down hills on them! a ten minute fix wow and you wont have to drive to vacuum shop and spend $$ and time

How do I replace the belt?

You need to remove the plate underneath that covers the rotor brush wheel. It used to be you didn't need a screwdriver, but these days you do. Then remove the rotor brush (it will lift right out). You should also see the old belt in there and if it's not broken, note where it attaches to the small rotary motor pulley and the brush. If it's broken, simply replace it by first looping a new one around that motor pulley and then the brush. Replace the brush and it may be tight but it needs to be.

It's quite easy - good luck...

Bissell Cleanwell II Bagless uprighht vacuum

Hi Pmob20,

Remove the brush and clean all the string or whatever may be trapped at the end edges of the brush.  This is usually the case with Bissel vacs, that string or fiber gets trapped at the ends of the brush assembly.
