If You want test lid switch, just connect A+B together for a monent!
If the monitor flashes on...? Lid switch is faulty.
It is too dificult to change the lid switch, so the easiest way is connect these pins together forever. :))

The switch is almost always covered, so you have to remove a lot of screws hidden under rubber dots or plastic covers. Electronics cleaner can fix the switch. The ribbon cable in the hinge may have a loose connection that must be fastened properly - or if it is broken, it can be replaced. In rare cases a bad connection between the converter and the backlights occurs. Just loosen it, then tighten it properly. All in all BAD CONNECTIONS are the main reason why all electronics fails.

Have you looked for service manual at HP support website already? It could have pictures showing the location. CLICK HERESome newer models don't have a visible switch. Instead they use a magnet inside the lid that triggers the switch when closed. That can very well be in the palm rest or anywhere else.

i think your sys file may be corrupted.
reinstall winxp if u have source of winxp.

first install UAA driver from the web link below :

then install the audio driver :

Installing this driver may result in an error. But continue with the following steps to get the audio driver installed correctly.
1. Click on Start and select Run. Now type devmgmt.msc and press enter.
2. Right click on "Audio device on High Definition Audio Bus" and click Update driver.
3. Select "Install from a list or specific location"
4. Click Next. Then select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install"
5. Click Next and then select "Sound, video and game controller" from the list.
6. Click Next and then click Have Disk.
7. Click Browse C:\swsetup\sp33443 folder and select the .inf (wis30b2a) file and click open and Continue with the onscreen instructions.

Please make sure to restart the laptop after installing the driver for changes to take effect.

Ok I am rather concern on what you being told versus what the real issue is. Also I kinda need clarification here.

2.. do you hear hard drive spin up?

I have seen instances where the display may be bad and noth the motherboard but in this case who knows i need more information to go on before diagnosis is laid out.

Things to try:

hook it up to a external display
take the memory out dust it off put it back in

it really really hard to say here without seeing the unit. Yes there has been common issues with Hp units doing this where as the motherboard needed to be replaced because the video card gave out due to overheats (this might be reated)

Fn+F1 Decreases the display brightness. Fn+F2 Increases the display brightness

Check the adapter.If it is good then its the DC jack.The only other thing it could be is the motherboard.

Yes by leaving the laptop on all the time you could burn out the laptops back light. Set your power settings to turn monitor off after so many minutes of non use to save this. Further more I would recommend a chill pad under the laptop to help keep the CPU from getting to hot.

Please right click on mycomputer go to properties then hardware then device manager then update driver then give path from c-program file audio driver XP then it will take driver and work fine

Hi there,

The best option is to find out which RAM it uses and purchase some more, as it was a business computer it is most likly only have 256mb of ram as it dont need many programs.

if you purchase 2 1gb sticks this will sort your problem out for under £40.

To reset your computer back to factory setting, you will need to purchase a windows XP operating system disc from a computer store, this will then take you through the steps.

Well Colleen, I thank you for writing this as detailed as possible, You can always run a disk cleanup, (Start > My computer > Right click C: > Properties > Disk Cleanup, Under General Tab)

That will get rid of junk, Or you could Defrag the computer
(Start>My computer> Rightclick C: > Properties > Tools Tab > Defragment now)
Defrag will take all sorts of junk in a file and sort them in a folder, giving your computer more memory, You could also manually delete everything by going to the root of it all, Or you could buy more memory.

This is a problem only you can solve. Go to CONTROL PANEL / ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS. Select the programs you do not want and start uninstalling them. Some of the names may seem a bit obscure and require some research. HP does install a lot of junkware.

DO NOT uninstall updates.

Reboot periodically and defrag the C: drive.

Order the correct Recovery Disk Set for your machine, it should cost less than $16. Do it now while thay are still available.

Now you can strip the D: Recovery Partition and use that space for data files.

You probably have a 4200 RPM hard drive. If the time comes when you need to do a recovery or just want more space, buy a larger, faster replacement drive. 7200 RPM is preferred. Installation is very easy - 6 screws.

Put your existing drive in an external USB case, they only cost about $10.

Your V5000T is an excellent machine and should give many years of productive use.
