GT4010 - my card reader

OK!! DELETE your drivers via Control Panel / SYSTEM... install a 'fresh driver set'... I found MANY drivers for ALCOR: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds031997 IT is the LAST Link below ~ try it FIRST! I found "GATEWAY" driver sets for your specific CARD READER, but it's for a VISTA 64 Bit O.S. The address is here. http://www.gateway.com/gw/en/US/content/drivers-downloads It reads: "CardReader Alcor 15 in 1 Media Reader Driver 2.02.01.01 6.0 MB 2010/07/21" The Link below may not work for you and if not, use the address above. Also know the the SEARCH function at GATEWAY is BROKEN ~ so you may need to 'drill down' to the download link? > Desktops > GT Series > GT4010 > Operating System > Windows VISTA 64 ____________ ALSO DO a GOOGLE SEARCH FOR: Card Reader Alcor 15 in 1 Media Reader Driver You should have around 169,000 HITS ~ and maybe you will find a newer/better driver from one of them? Drivers Downloads Download Gateway GT5082b Alcor Card Reader Driver 2 01 03 01 for Windows... THIS ONE! https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds031997

How do I replace the video card?

When replacing your Graphics Card (GFX) with a new and more powerful one, then you have to make sure that:
  • The new card doesn't exceed the PSUs (Power Supply Unit) output (think it's 300 W)
  • You have a PCI Express slot for it.
  • Your PC fulfill the requirements needed by the GFX Card.
Look at the PC models spec sheet: http://panam.gateway.com/s/PC/R/5891/5891sp3.shtml

Gateway GT4010 Problem

This problem is video chip related. I have done alot of research on this and found that everyone has the same problem in some form or another. Your best bet is to junk the pc and get a different one, since the motherboard in the pc and the replacements you can get are all prone to the same failure. The best home remedy I have found is a hair dryer on the video chipset as mentioned in one of the above "fixes". Seems to work for a while, not permanent. You may need to repeat if your system goes down again. Also, when your system powers up and your screen looks more green than usual or different than it used to, just apply more heat and pressure. On another note, if anyone has a replacement for this case, GT4010, from a different manufacturer, please let me know. Hope this helps.

Every pre-built computer manufacturer has their own design, and it can vary from MODEL to MODEL.The main thing here is, the Power On switch usually doesn't.This ATX power on switch is used in MANY models of Desktop PC's,http://www.directron.com/atxswitch.htmlI know it's hard to see here, and I apologize for that. Best example I have found.View what looks to be a metal square cap in the front of the view. There is a small post that sticks out. This post is what the plastic part of the Power On Button assembly, presses against.Power On Button assembly may have a plastic post itself, which is returned with a coiled spring, once the Power On Button is pressed.Or the plastic button itself, presses against that Power On switch post. You need to soften the plastic of the Power On Button assembly, in order to remove the Power On switch. The plastic tabs of the Power On Button assembly may break, if this is not observed. Also compounded by the fact, that the plastic of the Power On Button assembly, has been heated several times, and is now brittle. (Plus age)I use a hair dryer set on low, (Thanks honey. I'll be right back with it, lol!), and slowly wave the nozzle of the hair dryer, back and forth across the Power On Button assembly.Once the plastic has softened some, ease whatever tabs you need to gently move aside a little, to ease the Power On switch out.Be aware that the plastic will cool almost instantly, and need to be softened again, before attempting to replace the Power On switch.Or perhaps june_sells20 this is the best way to go,http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gateway-Brushed-Aluminum-GT-Series-5-Bay-uATX-Front-Bezel-8016758R-6378-/271069731471?pt=US_Computer_Case_Accessories_Tool_Kits&hash=item3f1d03da8fNot advertising for seller, nor website. Gateway lp2207 appears power supply

Actually the problem is one of the capacitors on the power supply.

I have the same monitor Gateway LP2207 and just replaced the capacitor.

Here is a step by step guide (I could not find anything on this monitor except what is on this site which is not much)

1. Remove the stand by taking out the 2 screws
2. Remove the 4 Wall mount screws
3. Remove the 3 screws at the bottom back of monitor
4. Pry the rear case off by starting in either the left or right corner at the bottom and work your way
to the center. (Note you WILL break off a little piece of the retainer clip on the inside but its not a major concern as you will not see it when you put it back together) Once you get it split a bit you need to work your way around the sides very carefully.
5. Once you get it split do not pull off the front bezel too fast as the tape wire for the front controls will be attached, all you need to do is pull up in the direction the cable is running and it will pull out very easy, be careful not to damage this tape wire.
6. Once you get the front bezel off there are 4 screws retaining the LCD cage to the rear case, remove these 4 screws.
7.Set the front and rear case cover aside and lay a soft towel down and flip the LCD on its face, next there are 4 screws securing the LCD into the LCD cage (Please note I’m not a professional and don't know the exact names for all the parts but I think once you get the case open you will understand what I'm calling what)
8. Remove the 4 wires on the left of the unit and the cable grouping on the right. you will also need to remove all the taped wires that are secured to the LCD cage.
9. There are 2 parts to the cage, you will need to only remove the top 4 screws and the 2 screws where the monitor speaker is. This is needed only because in order to get the power supply out you need a little space to remove it.
10. Remove the 2 screws where the power cord plugs into
11. Flip the unit over so that you can see the power supply and the video board and remove the * screws holding the power supply into the cage.
12. Remove the wires from the Video board going to the power supply board, you will also need to remove the wire going to the USB hub, this can be done by removing the 2 screws holing the metal protection plate and then pull the wires from the hub.
13. Now remove the power supply and look at the capacitors on the board, you will see the top of the capacitor has a bulge on the top, that is the one that needs to be replaced.

Now here is the good part! if you know how to solder Go down to your local Radio Shack and get a new capacitor for 2.00, replace the capacitor, if not then take the board to your local TV repair shop and tell them to replace the capacitor, it should only cost you about 25 -35 bucks since you did all the work pulling the monitor apart and it only takes them 10 min to remove and replace the capacitor.

Now once you have it repaired put it all back together in the reverse order and you will have yourself a repaired monitor for 35.00 and an hour worth of your time.

I hope this has helped anyone with this monitor and has saved you the time that it took me to search the net (I looked for 2 days and found nothing)

If the power light is blinking amber - The problem could be that the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.

Ensure that the voltage selection switch is set to match the AC power at your location (if applicable).
Ensure that the processor power cable is securely connected to the system board.
If you have a surge protector, turn it off for 30 seconds, then back on.
If you don't have one (you should on any expensive electronics to avoid them from blowing when there is a storm) turn off your computer, then unplug it from the wall for 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

as you said that you are not able to start the computer it can only be solved by using a BOOT CD of a data recovery software, as this CD will help you boot your system and recover the lost data, It will also help you to recover the product key of the older version of the XP version installed

Gateway GT4010 desktop pc powers

Hi,

Dust can be a massive cause of problems on a motherboard as it acts like a blanket causing components to overheat and sometimes conducts small amounts of electricity. Many boards on this condition are basically fried and need replacing. You could try a 24 pin power supply but i doubt that will make any difference as you have done everything to restore it.

Regards.

Display rolling

Make sure there aren't flourecent device near the monitor. If there is, move it away from the monitor. If that doesn't fix the problem check your display settings and change the hertz. Right click on your desktop and choose properties go to display look for screen refresh rate change it to one of the other options and see what happens. If none of these options work look into getting a new monitor.
