Washer makes grinding/loud sound and will not agitate-spins fine

Look under the washer. Is there a little pile of black rubber shavings? This sounds like the basket coupler between the motor and the drum. If the coupler is the problem it is inexpensive to fix. Some also call this part the "clutch". It kind of looks like a hockey puck with six holes in it... three for the motor, three for the clothes drum. In your case, I suspect that the holes are intact in the direction of spin, but as soon as it reverses for agitation, it breaks out through the back of the holes.

It seems as though the controller is "Hanging Up?" now this doesn't seem to be supported by any "Faulty" parts, as evidenced, it WILL work, after it is re-initialized, it is also doubtful it is a sensor either, though it may pay to check them all? So this really only leaves us with the actual controller itself, which is where i think you will find your problem, the only "Fix" is complete replacement,. with a new or reconditioned one.

Otherwise please contact a local or head office of Maytag, and ask for a referral to an authorised service center, then when in touch with them get a serviceman to call and ONLY first ask for a "Quote" as to what's wrong and how much it will cost. Then one can proceed from there when armed with the relevant info.

Maytag A412.....will not agitate....cannot turn

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. If you have a washer that has a weak agitation or no agitation at all, here are some possible solutions. You need to check your belts. Most washers have one or two belts. Check your lid switch. If a lid switch is bad, it can cause the washer to not work properly. Sometimes, they will not work at all. Make sure you check your drive motor. The drive motor controls the spinning, draining, and agitation. Most washers have the reverse motor, meaning the shaft rotates in both directions, clockwise and counterclockwise. It is possible to lose one direction and not the other. Some washers have a clutch that controls the agitation. If it is bad or worn, it may prevent the agitator to work. Most of these washers come from General Electric. You could have a bad motor coupler. They are located on the side of the motor drive inside the washer. It is also possible that you have a bad transmission. Check the agitator itself. You could have a bad spline or two. The splin accompanies the shaft and allows the movement of the agitator. If you rule out all the parts above, you may have an electrical issue or an issue with the control board. It is very important to test each part and make sure it is getting power. If a part is not working and not getting any power, the power loss may be the reason that it doesn't work. You can test the current in the wires with a voltage meter.

WASHER WILL FILL BUT THEN NOTHING BUT A BUZZING

How cold was this garage? Could you have ice in the pump? Let it thaw a few hours, (or better yet, overnight) then try again.

Washer won't do anything but fill.

It is very likely that the motor has burned out. What happens is that the water solenoid allows water to fill to a certain point where a fill sensor stops it. The program then moves on to activate the motor which will agitate the wash. So when power is supplied to the motor, it tries to start, overheats because of a break down of insulation in the windings, and you smell burning. Replace the motor.

Maytag washing machine #mav6260aw

I found the crazy sound where comes from, it was an aluminum ring in the drain pump.
First of all, I took out the belt under the bottom, checked moter to run itself, it was fine, so, I suspected some waste in somewhere, it was lucky I disassembled the drain pump first, no waste in the drain pump, but I saw a ring that was cut under the pump (seems should be connected), when I try to spin the pump wheel by hand it is broken because of the ring.
I ordered the entire drain pump on the website, the cost $74 + delivery fee, I recognized Maytag re-designed the drain pump due to the ring ( new pump does not have the ring anymore). Now the washer works fine like new.
