Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer - Page 9 Questions & Answers
My maytag neptune TL is making a loud clicking
Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
I would gently suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters and many machines will not even go to spin or release the door lock if there is any water still left inside.
Here are my guidance notes for checking both the drain motor filter and the drain motor ;-0)
-------------------------------------
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!) and most are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play!
REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT!
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. If it doesn't work then the motor is malfunctioning!
Hope the filter is the problem and good luck!

I start load of wash,
I would put the machine in Service Mode with that Wet Wash Load in the wash basket and do a Quick Spin Test on page 14 of the Service Manual and record the fastest RPM that the wash basket will pin up too.

Read thru the post. I feel you have a Clutch malfunction even though you may not be see DC ot UC unbalance errors to the Console.
I'm seeing that around the 5 to 6 yr mark it's time for a Tub Seal replacement and possible Outer Tub and Spinner Support bearings should be replaced on the FAV6800A and FAV9800A machines. It's not too bad for most DIY owners.

Maytag Neptune load
Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
I mostly answer front load problems but ' out of balance' is a common problem with both!
So- I don't know your particular machine but the initial cure is the same.
It is necessary to ensure absolutely that the machine has all 4 feet very firmly on the floor, and I mean firmly ;-0)
Doesn't matter whether it is empty or not but switch it off then-
very firmly push one front corner diagonally into the centre of the machine and see if the machine moves or rocks AT ALL, even the slightest. If it does you will need the open-ended spanner which came with the (new) machine........which of course went missing a long time ago?!! An adjustable spanner will suffice.
Adjust the foot under that corner downwards until it is very firmly- almost pushing- against the floor but not so far that the corner lifts up!
If this corner did not rock do the same to the other.
Once you cannot rock the machine the slightest little bit, screw the locking nuts up tight to the underside of the machine so that they will not move. Ideally the rear feet should also be locked.
If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

Clothes comes out dirty still and they smell
Add one cup of bleach to the empty washing machine, and wash on hot.
From experience, and your description I am going to guess that you are either NOT using HE (high efficiency) detergent, or you are using too much detergent, or both.
You really need less than you think.
With HE washers, if you use non HE detergent, it can cause buildup of biological scum on the inside parts of the washing machine, which causes the odor.
I keep getting error code
Somewhere on this forum I have a response to DC or UC unbalance errors and the fix. It's hard to find my past post on this forum.

please find above your service manual should you wish to DIY. There are troubleshooting steps and remedies too...
This problem is the main controller board and or power supply, the only repair is replacement of this main board. What happens is they get "Spiked" from the mains and then do all sorts of weird things such as you are experiencing, it also may be a sensor? however it is hard to diagnose without actually inspecting things, which is why we usually need a professional
If you do not wish to DIY, my recommendation is to contact a Maytag service center and ask for a service call, now when they arrive, ask ONLY for a "Quote" as to costings and go from there. The cost may be quite high as these main boards aren't cheap, but maybe there is an alternative, perhaps reconditioned boards that the professional may have...

Will not pump out water. sounds like pump is
Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
I would gently suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor/pump lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters and many machines will not even go to spin or release the door lock if there is any water still left inside.
Here are my complete and generic guidance notes for checking both the drain motor filter and the drain motor ;-0)
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!). These panels are either held on by (plasic) screws or will just pull off. Most filters are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play.
REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT.
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.

At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. Using something suitable like a glove see if it is easy to briefly slow the motor down. If it is easy then the motor is malfunctioning.
