Canon 30D had bent CF pin - power light remains on: replace cf pin slot or cf pin slot AND motherboard??? Please help!!

As hobby photographer, and retired electronics engineer, I hope I can help you. first, you virtually never find any fuse in a camera. Sometimes they build in a diode, to prevent damage when someone puts in a battery, the wrong way around, but most of the time you even can't put in a battery the wrong way around. If in your camera a pin from the CF connector caused a shortage in the camera, the connector should be replaced, but sometimes this shortage can cause extra damage, because voltages can come on places that can't handle this. A chip can die. Only to find out, when you replaced the connector and try to switch on the camera again. If you try to find some pictures of the inside of a DSLR, you can see that the "board" actually is a flat cable, with tiny chips connected. It is almost impossible to replace the components on that. I know Canon certified repair centres, deliver good jobs and have original spare parts. But you always can ask what it will cost in advance and decide if you want to go on. On the site ifixit dot com you can see how to repair a camera. I'm not sure your camera is opened there too, but you can get an idea how it looks inside. Although a 30D still makes good pictures, perhaps you should consider to start saving up for a new one?

Possibly spillage/water damage/corrosion, or may be bad contact in the wheel assembly itself. Best thing to do is to disassemble the wheel assembly, clean the circuit contacts with a good pen eraser and alcohol (not rubbing alcohol!), and reform and clean the contact brushesRemove the back and front covers (you have to remove the back and grip and side rubberette), unplug the two flexes from the top cover at back board (be very careful with the flippers on the connector, they are very fragile), remove the top cover (screw holding eyepiece adjustment ring, screw by right strap lug, two silver screws under top cover at right and left sides. Discharge the flash capacitor (caution - may have 300 volts, major shock potential!). (make a discharge tool with a 1K 5 watt resister). You can then reach the wheel to diss-assemble/clean

Canon EOS Rebel XSI got wet yesterday at SeaWorld.

If it was saltwater then it may have been shorted one or more of the circuit boards out. You can try removing the covers and cleaning the exposed circuit boards with a Q-tip soaked in WD-40 (don't spray on the boards) Cleaning any obvious corrosion will sometimes solve the problem. However, if there is corrosion in the flex connectors then boards may have to be replaced.

My auto built in flash

Hi,
The built in flash will (or should) pop up automatically if you are in the basic zones and the camera detects a slow shutter speed. If you are on a creative zone you need to manually push the button on the front of the camera it's a little button with a lightning bolt beside it. The flash will pop up take a few seconds to charge and you are on your way to flash photography. Two other things the internal flash will not pop up if you have another flash or accessory mounted in the camera hot shoe. When the flash is ready you should see in the viewfinder a green lightning bolt that telly you the flash is charged and ready for use.

I have the canon eos

Hi Egottesman,

On your camera you should be able to find a button names as AF - WB:

When you Tap it, the two control dials can change it.

Also you need to remember that It will stop accepting input 6 seconds after you're done twiddling, or the instant you tap the shutter button.

Hope this is the solution for you...:)

During a lens chang with

I assume you have the newer version of the camera with auto focus and anti-vibration which moves the lens independent from the camera body. How do you know about the short? I do hope you have an extended warranty with the company so you can get it fixed. If not it would cost more to fix than to get a new camera. Good Luck

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

I am getting an Eff

Hello

The issues you are running into are indicative of two possible issues.

First, the memory card may simply be bad. But before you purchase or try another memory card, you need to look for the second possible issue. The second issue, which is typcially more common, is that inside the card slot on the camera, there are pins, it is possible that one or more of these pins has become bent or damaged. If you look inside you can usually see a pin or pins out of alignment or bent over. If that is the case, the camera will need to go in for service.

Hello I have a 30d with

If you have done all that was listed in your description "normally" error 99 is an electronic malfunction however, a camera firmware update may also fix the problem. Canon has these updates on their site and it can prove beneficial in this case. One of the offices I look after had two Canon 30D's great camera and they used them hard for two and a half year and at 80,000 frames I had Canon Canada replace the shutter and shutter button which is a weak link in the electronic chain. The shutter release button gets oils from the users hands down into the circuit and causes faults as well. Most times you can see a slight build up of oils in the switch between the button and the camera body. Don't bother trying to clean it the stuff is already down inside. Try the firmware update first then if the problem is solved you are good to go if not then it's service time.

The CCD camera canon eos

If you have dirt on the sensor, it can be cleaned using special products. If you Google the words "how to clean an SLR sensor", you will find sites that explain the procedure with pictures and places where you can order the supplies needed. This is much less expensive than trying to replace the ccd sensor.

Turn Camera on however, will

Hi,

his model has had problems associated with internal focal lens and focus drive motor.Optical unit(lens assembly) will most likely be in need of replacement and alignment.

First off,I will suggest to reset the camera to factory settings. This will insure that you are not in a manual focus mode and allow all auto functions. If problem still exists,I will suspect that service and lens replacement will be needed. The most cost effective repair route will be to contact mfg for a repair estimate,if warranty does not apply.I do feel that repair on this model should be economical.Contact Canon factory service at 1-800-OKCANON.

If you want to get it repaired from a 3rd party at a substantially lower cost, you could consider :-

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
