The top of my maytag gas range get SUPER hot

The repair man probably checked to make sure the various parts were working i.e. the burners light and burn properly. The fact that it seems to be dependent on whether or not there are pots over the burners makes me think that somehow they are set too low with respect to the top of the range. If that were the case, the heat would not be able to flow up and out but would rather build under and transfer into the range top. Keep in mind however that ranges in general be they gas or electric put off a lot of heat and metal loves to conduct heat, so the top will definitely heat up. But if this is beyond normal heat, I would look for something that is allowing the heat to transfer to the top when you have pots there.

5ab error message

You may have inadvertently set your range to "Sabbath Mode". The display actually reads "SAB". This is a feature that allows the consumer to disable certain features of the range in order to honor the sabbath. Usually this disables the oven, but allows the consumer to still use the surface burners. You cannot defeat it by unplugging the range or turning off the breaker either. You will either have to wait 72 hours for the mode to clear, or figure out how to turn it off.

To turn the Sabbath Mode on/off on most Maytag models, you simply press and hold the "Clock" button for 5 seconds. On other models, you press and hold the "Stop/Time" and "Cancel" buttons down at the same time for 3 seconds. These instructions should be in your owner's manual.

If these instructions do not work for you, or if your model number is different than what you posted this question under, please post back with your correct information so that I may be able to assist you further. I hope this helps you.

My oven is locked and wont open. it is cold and

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The locking of the oven is a safety measure while self clean function is activated. Once the oven has completed the cycle & has cooled down, then it will reset the door lock.

If a self clean oven door lock fails to open after the self clean cycle and sufficient cooling time has elapsed (approximately 1 hour), there are several things you can try.
  1. Unplug the unit or shut off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes. Plug the unit back in or turn on the circuit breaker. Set the clock and gently try moving the door lock lever (is so equipped) or opening the door.
  2. Set the self-clean cycle again and only allow it to work for 15 minutes. Cancel the self-clean cycle and allow the oven to cool. Gently try moving the door lock lever (is so equipped) or opening the door.
If these procedures fail to correct the condition or you were not using the self clean cycle, then, the lock must usually be accessed and moved manually to open the door—

In order to open the door you have to open the control panel and remove the door lock.

Remove the three screws from the bottom of the control panel. You'll heed a 1/4" open wrench. Pull the bottom of the control panel toward yourself and push it up to release from the upper tabs.
The door lock is secured by the three screws.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.
Thanks

I have a Maytag model MER5775QAW free standing

Unplug the range open the control panel to access the electronic oven control. Unplug the wires and wait 5 minutes. Replace all wires on the control and turn the power back on.
If this does not reset your oven control it must be replaced.
Your ERC(clock) is bad and must be replaced.

F1 error, oven doesn't work

Hi,

Here is a simple test that you can do to determine whether the clock or the touchpad are defective when the display reads F1:

- Disconnect power to the range.
- Gain access to the back of the ERC (electronic range control, or "clock").
- Unplug the touch pad ribbon connector from the ERC. This will be a flat wire about 1 ½" to 2" wide.
- Make sure everything is clear and will not short out when power is turned back on. Replace any covers removed to gain access to the ERC.
- Turn the power back on to the range.
- Watch for the F-1 and listen for the beep.
- If you get the F-1 and beep, replace the ERC.
- If after approximately 60 Minutes you do not get the F-1 fault, replace the touch pad.

NOTE: Some models incorporate the touch pad and the clock control as one part so F1 = bad clock control.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Bake element doesnt work everything else does

Control unit is probably the problem, You should check your Breaker to make sure it didnt trip outside of that you can check voltage to the element with the oven set to bake, if you dont have votage to element then it would most likely be the board. I just checked the wiring diagram for this unit and there is an over limit switch which is a long shot but worth checking. My bet is on the board. There are 2 listings for the part number so if you check on parts make sure you have full model # serial # AND series #(should be a 2 digit number like 10 or something)

Not heating up

Hi.

If one of the heating elements is not heating at all, then replace the heating element. You can test the heating element reading Ohms with a multimeter. You disconnect element and read impedance with multimeter set at Rx1. If the element has no continuity, and the circuit is open , then the element has blown. In that case you get no heating at all on one of the elements. Check if either broiling or baking element is not working.

If heating is poor, then it is the sensor probe.

In some case replacing the probe does not fix the problem. In that case it is faulty control assembly. Usually it is the temp probe.

Here parts and diagrams.

Regards.

Oven and oven display do not work or light up, but

Check if there both hot wires and the neutral are ok at the control board.
You should have 110-120v between each hot wire and neutral, and 220-240v between two hot wires. If power is ok, replace control board (the display unit is on the control board).

White: 74009221

How to remove scraches from ceran top

Clean the stove top thoroughly. I use oven cleaner to clean my stovetop. It works wonders. Be very careful not to get the cleaner on any part that is not ceramic finish.

Then, lightly spray Appliance Paint on the scratched area. You can purchase this paint at any hardware or Home Improvement store. It comes in several of the standard appliance colors.

If you need to use more than one coat, wait several hours between coats. Better to use several light coats than one heavy coat. A single heavy coat will tend to chip.

When i hit bake the clock resets

I've seen this happen on some models due to a bad temperature sensor probe or bad oven door switch. This can also be caused by a problem with the electronic control. If you are able to eliminate the probe and door switch as culprits, we can help you with the control board. We repair oven controllers at www.fixyourboard.com.
