Coils in my 2454 packed solid with ice. Thawed it
your defrost heater around the coils is open and can no longer heat,or the adaptive defrost timer or defrost thermistor are defective located in the refrige control panel behind the temp controls and the thermistor is located on the defrost heater assy
The doors are scorching hot to touch on my Maytag
It's usually caused by the condenser fan which is underneath around back. If it's not running when the compressor runs it will cause the problem you describe. You will need to remove the cardboard backing on the back of the fridge to access the fan.
Icemaker does not produce ice
First see if the ice maker is turned on then check your water inlet if both are good then your ice maker may be faulty...
Just not running no freezer or refridge
Is there any power? Does the light turn on? If so it sounds like the compressor is not running. Is there power down to the compressor. If so now you will need an amp meter. You will have to ring out the compressor where the three metal pins come out and the wires hook on. the wires will have to be removed to do this. They are start run and common.
Take the meter leads and place on two pins at a time and record the ohms. The two smaller readings should add up to the highest number. If they don't add up you have a bad compressor. If they do add up you may have a bad start coil or capacitor. This will be a cheap fix. Go to a supply store and get a 3n1 kit its a start coil and capacitor all in one.
I hope this helps you.
My freezer is not working properly with clicking sound.
The clicking sound is probably the compressor relay trying to start the compressor. When the lights dim, the compressor is trying to start and hence, pulling power from the rest of the unit.
If the compressor has a start capacitor, that could possibly be the problem. If not, the compressor itself should be replaced.
My freezer works great but the refrigerator side
Sounds like your refrigerator is just began missing defrost. Inside the control panel is a 10 hour 21 minute defrost timer. I want you to look into back of freezer to see if snow or frost is also building on the rear wall. If yes then I want you to find a small hole sometimes covered with a plastic plug in the control panel inside fresh food compartment. remove plug and place a flathead screwdriver into the hole and turn slowly clockwise until compressor and fans stop. After a few minutes open freezer door and listen for sounds of crackling or sizzling of water dripping onto the defrost heater. Let me know what you find, Sea Breeze
Water drip at base of freezer door at bottom!
Have you had a chance to locate the location the water inside freezer? There are many reasons for this to happen I just can not say it would be a defrost condensate drain blockage. Most times it is. Every 8 to 10 hours your freezer defrost and the water is surposed to follow a pipe or drain through the refrigerator to a pan below refrigerator where the warm air from condenser evaporates the water back to the air inside your home. That drain line sometimes slowly becomes blocked and then the drain hole becomes clogged with ice. Once that happens the drain needs to be cleared. I will try to help you solve this so for now I need you to see if water looks as if it came from rear of freezer. Placing photos on Flickr would be great! So tell me where you see it and yes we may need to pull a few things out. This is nothing a few towels, hair dryer hot water and Clorox and a wet vacuum cannot handle. Sea Breeze
What causes my fridge to run hot? It thinks its an
I believe it may have been laid down during transport. Leave it unplugged for another 24 hours and allow the compressor oil to return back down to the compressor. This is a very common problem if laid down on side during transport. After this time replug the power cord and listen and feel to insure warm air blows from bottom of refrigerator and cold air in freezer. The oil is to thick and heavy to be pushed through the capillary tube. Just be patient and not try to push the time getting it to cool again as the compressor will continue to overheat if oil remains in the cap tube. Thanks Sea Breeze
Relay keeps clicking on and off
We aren't sure either without putting a tester called an "Annie" on your compressor. Maytag has had a lot of compressor failures, and we have installed overload relays on some of these refrigerators, the compressors ran fine and pulled perfect amps, and hours later the compressors failed anyway. You can remove the overload relay from the compressor, and do a continuity check on the three terminals. You should get continuity between all three, and you should not get any continuity between any terminal and the compressor case or freon lines. If the compressor tests fine, then it is usually, not always, a bad overload relay. If the compressor tests bad, then your refer is not worth repair, usually a 900 to 1100.00 repair in my area in Seattle. You may still have a warrantee on it as most brands still have a full 5 year warrantee on the compressor. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists.
Ice frozen over in ice maker, makes a clicking
Good day,
It won't empty itself, you have to remove the ice maker, and let it defrost and melt itself. Do not rush it. In fact leave it out overnight,
Re-install it, and check for performance. may take up to 6 hours for the first batch.
If it overflows, then the water valve in the back rear of the machine needs to be replaced. It's not opening and closing properly.
If the ice maker does not function, then it must be replaced, and it's smart to install a new valve at the same time.
