Freezer is OK. Refrigerator is 45 degrees

Why did the power fail? I had a refrigerator blow both its computer boards by a power failure. However, there is a procedure for fixing a frig. Most likely the defrost heater is not working. (Your situation sounds like it might be something else.)On the back wall of the freezer are the cooling tubes. These must get very cold and frost up with time. There is no such thing as a "frost free" refrigerator. All coils frost up. What actually happens in a "frost free" refrigerator is that every so often the refrigerator part shuts off for a while and a heater turns on to heat the coils to remove the frost. This frost turns to water and drains out the back to a sump outside the refrigerator. What usually happens is the heater burns out. Sometimes the timer stops if it is a motor driven timer and sometimes the computer fails if it is computer driven. If the coils freeze solid with ice the air cannot circulate through the back tubes and into the refrigerator section so will give you exactly your problem. The easiest way to do this is to take all of the food out of both parts of the refrigerator. You need about two days to fix this. Unplug the frig. Pull it forward. Look at how much water is in the pan under the refrigerator. Leave both doors open for two days. Then look at how much water is in the pan. It should be FULL or Overflowing. This means that the coils were frosted up. If it is empty then this means that the tube to the pan is plugged. If it is only half full then this means everything is good and it most likely the circulatory fan which is in the refrigerator portion. If the tube is clogged the easiest way to clear it is to hook a wet vac up to it and suck it clear. You can push a plastic line up through the tube but this may bend the fins or break the heater that are located in the freezer. I use a weed eater line for this. Most likely it is the heater element that is out. These are standard replacement items and most appliance repair shops have them. You cannot change these until the ice is all melted and using a hair dryer takes a long time. It is easier to just wait the two days.If you have an automatic ice machine in the freezer this must be removed before the back panel can be removed. Good luck.

Fridge and freezer too warm

Jason, your solution was PERFECT! I got the switch and installed it and the fridge is humming along better than ever. I had read horror stories about the Tecumseh compressor and figured I was looking at having to get a new compressor or fridge. $60 for the switch and I'm in business. Thanks very much!

Compressor requires 2 or 3 or more tries to start.

If the model number is correct and you replaced the=>12555902 Start Relay with Overload along with the-> 65889-4 Run Capacitorand still having trouble the compressor may be defective due to binding because of wear, age, factory defect or you are trying to restart too soon after the compressor last stopped. No promises of a fix but the=> URCO810_Supco_Start_Relay_3_n_1 11_18_2012_2_16_42_pm.jpgmay be useful in a worn binding hard start compressor but may last a good long while Sea Breeze

Ice build up in back

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

STOP PAYING FOR EXPENSIVE WATER FILTERS FOR YOUR REF. DO THIS====

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WATER SPLASHING IN FREEZER AT ICEMAKER
THE FILL TUBE IN BACK OF REFRIGERATOR CAN SLIP
AGAINST THE FILL RESERVOIR CAUSING A PARTIAL BLOCKAGE
OR BECOME CLOGGED WITH ICE.
REMOVE THE ICEMAKER AND INSPECT THE FILL TUBE.
RUN WATER IN TUBE TO ELININATE BLOCKAGE AND CHECK
TEMP IN FREEZER. IF TEMP IS BELOW 0 DEGREES, THATS
OVERKILL AND USUALLY A WASTE OF ELECTRICITY TO KEEP IT THAT COLD, NOT TO MENTION THE FILL TUBE FREEZING UP

But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
Check Temp inside freezer. It has to be down to about 10 or 15 degrees
This can cause slow ice making if its too high even tho its freezing everything else at 25 degrees
See if water is in icemaker.
Pour water in Ice Maker and wait to see if it ejects.
If it ejects thenyou need to replace water valve in rear bottom of fridge(Its the part that
attaches to water line out of wall)
If it doesn't eject then it is a faulty Ice Maker.
If its leaking or no water at icemaker or door either one, then the valve at the rear bottom of ref needs replacing
First I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also if it is getting drinking water to the door but not to the icemaker (or vice versa) Then you need to replace
the water valve at the bottom rear of the fridge. It is a double valve and one side is not working
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.

Loosing cold just five yrss.old

unplug and defrost fridge/freezer.

you most likely have ice build up in your evaporator or collection tray. a full defrost should fix this. just unplug the fridge until it is fully defrosted.

Wiki has good instruction on how to defrost a freezer;
http://www.wikihow.com/Defrost-a-Freezer

once you have it defrosted, adjust the temperature to a mid low level for 24 hours then adjust to needed freezer fridge temperature (advise to get a thermomitor to monitor your fridge and freezer is not to high as this could freeze the lines again and your back to square one.

good luck. (remember to eat or store your perishables properly so you dont loss money on your food etc spoiling.

My Maytag MDF2561FES, Bottom freezer

I believe this is a classic symptom of what they call wicking. Water deposits build up in ice-maker tray and eventually that causes you situation. The best solution is to replace the icemaker unit but you can buy at the local appliance parts store an icemaker cleaner and remove it and carefully clean it out then reinstall and you should be good to go for a while. there should be one screw along the bottom of icemaker remove that then loosen sometimes remove 2 screws on top of icemaker. carefully unplug wires. Follow instruction on cleaner bottle for cleaning.

Freezer form ice on bottom and leaks water on the

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
The compartment drain is clogged either with ice or debris. Do lengthy manual defrost on the unit by removing the contents and then placing a fan blowing into the unit for more than 2 hours. You must make sure that any ice that has formed in the drain has thawed or the problem will repeat.
Look at item 8 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5170439&diagram_id=1352399#d1352399

The drain that is most likely clogged is in the center of the tray or just below it in the compartment.

The compartment drain itself consists of items 1, 2, and 3 of this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5170439&diagram_id=1352400#d1352400

The tube that gets clogged is item 6 of the link above. Clean out the drain and the tube.

I clear it with a piece of copper wire by gently pushing it through the drain. You can use a plastic Zip / cable / spot tie also. Before you place the unit back into service make sure you can pour a cup of water into the drain and it clears rapidly.

You should be able to do this without the aid of an in home service person.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Kelly
