This problem may have been caused by the USB mode of your player being changed. You can try this:

* Press the menu button, scroll down and select "Settings"
* Scroll down and select "USB"
* Change the setting to "Auto Detect"
Reconnect your player to your computer and see if your files are available to your computer.

Files not deleted from m250
Try this solution:
Hook up your mp3 player to your computer
Go to your desktop and double left click on "My Computer"
When it opens you will see listing that says "Devices with Removal Storage" your mp3 player should be listed there.
Right click on your mp3 player, and a window will open, right click on "Open" and now your files/songs should be visible.
Hold the left click down and drag it across all the files/songs that you do not want this will highlight the files/songs you do not want, release, right click and then click on "Delete"
Now you mp3 player should be clear of the files/songs you do not want.
Good Luck,
I hope this helps

When I hook up my Sansa mp3 player to either
Hello
I am not saying that this is the correct solution, but is works for me each time. Just plug the mp3 player into one of the usb ports on at the back of your computer case.
One other thing you can try is:
Simply UNPLUG YOUR COMPUTER FROM THE POWER SUPPLY.
Yes that’s it! Note that this does not mean just turning off your
computer because modern computers don’t really turn off when you press
the power button as the motherboard still gets power.
First to explain, the motherboard is where all of
hardware of the computer is connected to, including the USB ports.
Sometimes the motherboard needs to be “rebooted” also because something
can go wrong, i.e. all your USB ports suddenly stop working. The small
microprocessor on the motherboard will reload the drivers and your USB
ports should be back to recognizing all devices!
So first turn off your computer using Shut Down or
pressing the power button and then UNPLUG it from the wall outlet. Let
it sit for about a minute and then plug it back in.
Hope this can help you in fixing that pesky “USB device not recognized” Windows error!
Kind regards
Andrea

The Sansa m250 does not have a rechargeable battery (this is the model you posted). Your battery is just dead. Take out the old AAA battery and put in a new one and it should work. Good luck, I hope this helps!
