Yes i know syncing is the easiest way to hook up archos to download files have you tried manually like drop & drag the files into the video folders? Some video formats work even in the new archos series some don't & you have to buy plugins. I personally didn't like using windows media player it reminds me too much of itunes

I have found someone who can replace the hard drive al they will need is the serial# from the HD it also depends on the size of memory you have. They will program the HD and send it to you with the instructions ob how to install. I will post here as soon as I receive the new HD back. So Archos lied saying you cannot replace the HD yourself.I will never buy another Archos product again. I have two the AV500 and the 605 wifi which is a joke with all of the Accessories they want you to purchase.I believe they design the products to fail so you would have to purchase their new products and all of the crazt accessories to get it to do what is supposed to do in the first place.Horrible company

hi there the first thing i would make sure you have a wide band ariel capable of receiving free view if the ariel is old and was there before you moved in and you have been there a while theres a good chance that the ariel isn't a wide-band ariel,

also check here with your post code to make sure free view is transmitted in your area

if you know you can get it and you have a wide band ariel make sure all connections are secure and that you don't have many leads connected together because you will lose a vast amount of quality though many leads to a point where you wont get a picture also make sure its the only tv on the connection as having a few will also do the same thing. ariel boosters can make a massive improvement on the line these can be bought any where even you local asda/walmart, make sure you have one secure connection right to the ariel socket to your tv. this eliminates any other problems

make sure you have your tv tuned in right if you have just moved house you will need to rescan for Chanel's as they can be on different frequencies from where you last lived

Cant see why not if you have a VGA (usually blue 15 hole (3x5 rows) connection on the Plasma TV, it should be ok. Connect the VGA cable to your PC and then to the TV, then power both up, Search through you TV Sources till you find VGA or sometimes AUX and you will see your PC booting up as normal. Also you might want to put sound to the tv too, in which case you'll need a 3.5mm jack lead at one end (into the sound card Green Jack Socket), to what ever the sound input is on your TV, usually the same 3.5mm Jack. If you want to still use your PC monitor too, you will need a VGA Y splitter, only a couple of quid off ebay, and another VGA cable, about the same price. Hope that's of use to you.

Hi, my archos does the exact same thing, however, when I press on, it turns on, then I hear a "click" and it turns itself off. Only when I have the charger plug in does the archos logo continue to remain on the screen. Did you find out what our problem is?

ensure your tv is in av1 mode

There is little documentation regarding the reset. However there is one in the Archos 504. If you take the battery off and look at the connecting Pins of the battery of the main unit. You will see a small Gold Button (looks like the circuit). This is the main reset button. If you Press it all will be good. You will not loose anything unless you have a Main File corrept but at least you will get function back so you can fix the firm ware.

Must be a common problem - I didn't use mine for a number of months and when I 'dusted it off' it started up and just sat there with the white screen. It works fine on the TV but doesn't display on the LCD screen. I have downloaded the latest firmware, formatted the H/Disk and re-installed all the original software but to no avail.

I reckon it must be a dry joint or some other harware fault. Anyone know of a fix yet?

its a HDD or OS failure
ull have to ask the company for a replacement if its under the warranty period
make sure to register ur device on the Archos website to get a 'Technical Support Passcode.'call Archos to tell them ur problem and if ur lucky they wud repair it free of charge
if u want to try it urself...i found this one of the forums on the net..
1.remove all the screws, and remove the battery.
2. Remove the hard disk from the player by disconnecting the ribbon connector carefully from the mainboard.
3. Try to startup the player after putting the battery back in place. This time, instead of turning off, the player showed a "cannot read hard disk" error with the option of formatting it. Made me realise that the hard disk was the culprit. However, I had heard the hard disk noises previously, and they sounded fine, so I realised it was a software issue (file system was corrupted)
4. Try to connect it back, same problem as before... Also it is very difficult to first start the player & then connect the hard disk, as the player is designed to shut off in that situation.
5. The best option after this would be to get a drive enclosure designed specifically for 1.8 hitachi hard disks to connect the disk directly to the computer using USB and format it.
6. However since I didn't have a specialised enclosure, I did a lot of trail and error with the player itself (running off mains while connecting the hard disk after starting the player without releasing the power button etc etc etc) which Im sure wasnt too kind on the hard disk, but voila, I managed to start it up fine WITH the hard disk in place without the player turning off using some weird combination of holding down the power button and connecting the ribbon on the bootup screen)
7. After this, he was able to select "format", and the player began working fine he lost all the data on the player itself, but luckily he had backups of everything!
