Fan does not work on heat mode
If the fan works on AC mode, then it is most likely a problem with the ignition system. There is a safety feature that shuts off most everything if the heater does not sense ignition. It could be the ignitor, the sensor, or the main control board. Look for a blinking red led light. It will give you a trouble code to start with. If you don't feel comfortable with electricity, don't mess with it. Call for professional help.

Unit will not come on
If the unit will not come on at all, it is probably either the contactor-relay or capacitor, and since I always receommend that you replace it as a set, it doesn't matter which.

Fan outside is running and
Hi,
The only way sometimes to tell for sure if the compressor is running, is to place an amp. meter on the wires going to the compressor and checking the power draw...
You can usually hear it along with the condenser fan, but not always...
Find an electrician with a meter and check it that way...

I have a Weather King
Hi,
If you are cool inside and the fan is not running then you are ok... I would however turn the temps. up a bit to eliminate more stress then necessary...
I am surprised that the fan is not working and you are still cooling though.
Was it a windy day? on a still day it may not work...
Are you sure the compressor was running but the fan not???
Some outdoor units do have switches that will turn off the fan if the head pressures are too low if the air temps. are low...

The air comes on and blows, but the fan outside
hello, if the compressor is running and yet the condenser fan motor is not most likely you have a bad capacitor to the fan or if it's a dual capcitor the fan side is bad. Another possibility is the motor itself could be shot but you would need a meter to check. with the power turned off and take you meter and put one meter lead to the ( common) wire and take the other meter lead to each additional wire coming from the motor one at a time, if you dont have resistance between any of the wires then the motor has a open winding and should be replaced.

IN THE CLOSET ERE MY
Your drain line is probably clogged. If you have shop vac, you can attach it to the drain outside. You may have to use tape to get a good seal and then use it to clear the clog. Also look in the air handler and see if there is a lot of build up in the pan under the coil. You can put a little Clorox bleach in the line a couple of times a year to help keep the drain line clear. Let me know if this helps.

My heat pump does well in 35 to 40 degree weather,
Turn off the heat pump, turn thermostat as high as it
will go. Sometimes they place a SCR Switch in
Line that can vary how elements come on.
Another possibility is each element might have a
reset high limit, you could start there. Then check to
see if the two elements are open, if thats the case
they will have to be replaced

Can I install emergency heat strips by myself? Our
Sounds like your heat pump may be undersized or is not defrosting frequently enough. But in answer to your question, they are not that difficult but if it was installed without strips, your power supply may not be enough. You will also have trouble purchasing them unless you can buy from a HVAC supplier. I would look into the heat pump function and the power supply. You may need to make some modifications before adding strips.
