HOtpoint washer
check these
1)the drain hose is kinked
2)Does the lid switch click when closing?
3)Something in the
pump or hoses? Check the hose coming down from the tub for socks, rags, etc.
4)Bad
wigwag5)Broken belt? Loose belt?
Also the pump would be the first culprit to check. I believe that the pump
in this model is electric and not driven by a pulley, so switching out
should be easy. First you want to verify that you have power going to
the pump while in the drain cycle. If you have power going to it and
it's not pumping water out you can be pretty sure that is the problem.
The front panel can be removed by removing the two screws at the bottom
and lifting out. Now you can get a good look at the motor and pump.

We have a Hot Point
Hello,
Typically the model number on hotpoint is 4 letter first and then a combo of numbers and letters
is should start as VWSR------------
so when i searched without the 1 after the V i found your model and believe the coupler between the agitator and transmission is stripped that is fairly common and fairly easy to repair. This youtube video will show you exactly how to replace that coupler
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N26MCQKuXn0 the part number for that coupler kit is
WH49X10042 it could be purchased at your local appliance parts store,or on online at;
searspartsdirect.com
apdepot.com
repairclinic.com
assuredparts.com
applianceparspros.com
I hope this will help you be able to repair your washer,

How to empty water when the spinner is not working
Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
It might not be spinning because the drain filter or drain motor is clogged- please see following-
I would gently suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor/pump lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters and many machines will not even go to rinse or spin or release the door lock if there is any water still left inside.
Following are my complete and generic guidance notes for checking both the drain motor filter and the drain motor ;-0)
REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT (alternatively use a wet vac as sensibly suggested by VinnyB1234!)
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!). These panels are either held on by (plasic) screws or will just pull off. Most filters are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play.
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. Using something suitable like a glove see if it is easy to briefly slow the motor down. If it is easy then the motor is malfunctioning.
If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

Machine wont turn on after making loud noise I
In rest switch is generally behind the conrole pannle most of the time it is a slow blow fuse. Unfortunately I do not have the manual. There also maybe a reset switch on motor it self you should be able to tip it up and check. While you under there check to see if the motor is receiving voltage. If it is and it still wont start it may need to be replaced.

Fills, does not agitate, drains, spins, fills,
grab the agitator at the base and give it a quick push upward..remove and see if the white dome with bolt holding it down is stripped on the inside where it splines onto the transmission shaft. :)

Does not stop filling with water
It's overfilling
If your washer is overfilling, check these:
Water-inlet valve
Water-level switch
Water-inlet valve
A defect in the water-inlet valve may mean that it's no longer able to shut off completely when the electricity has been turned off to it. If this occurs, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub. In time, the water may accumulate substantially. If this happens, you need to replace the valve.
Water-level switch
A defect--or an obstruction--in the water-level switch may mean that it can't tell the water to shut off. So the machine overflows. This switch senses the water level in the clothes tub. It's usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. You can either clear any obstruction in the tube or replace the water-level switch.

How to remove agitator
If this is a Hotpoint. You should just be able to pull it up and out. Sometimes they stick. Usually you can just reach in and put your fingers underneath on opposite sides and pull up and they will come out. If they are stuck bad you may need a special tool to get it out without breaking it but that is rare.
