Drums turns but no heat

check, to see if the gas line is open to the dryer, if there's a shut off valve, make sure it's in the "open" condition. Check your electronic igniter----that's sounds like the most likely problem.

Heating but drum does not turn

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Sounds like your problem may be a broken belt, or the belt may have slipped off of the motor pulley, or idler arm pulley. If you have to replace your drum belt and if you have a front loading machine. Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer. Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum. Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn. While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them. I will include these two websites for parts and further help:

Estate dryer TGDS840JQ1 does not heat. I've

Hello Bob,

The cycle thermostat sounds good to me the two wires on the top/bottom should be zero ohms 1.1 is fine the two across from each other are going to be in the range of 6-8k so they as well are fine. What ya need to check is the heat element itself it should be between 10-20 ohms

Whta you to check also is the 2 thermostats where the tube the burner asm. fits to in the rear of the dryer both of the should be zero ohms resistiance (1-5 would be ok) if you find either of them to be open that will be the reason the dryer isnt not heating

But on the gas dryer the most common thing that will make it not heat is going to be the igniter..need to check it not for ohms but when the dryer is running that their is 120 volts to it,if it has 120vac and doesnt come on the igniter is bad

if the igniter does not have 120 volts need to check the flame sensor(black rectangle peice on the side of the burner tube) for zero ohms before checking it be sure the power is disconnected since it if you touch it live it will shock you

if all above checks good either the timer or the motor will cause the dryer to neot heat as well
but i suspect it will either be the igniter of one of the thermostats on the housing in the rear where the burner tube fits into

Good luck,
GENE

Hi, My

sounds like your gas valve is leaking through one or more of the gaskets. It definitely would be worth your while to fix the dryer considering the amount of propane you're losing. That's a big gas bill! Unless you have already tried it this way I,you could use a spray bottle with some real soapy solution you will probably find it.

I have an Estate TGDS840JQ1 gas dryer and it does

First check to see that the gas burner is "trying to come on but doesnt". Pull the little plastic cover off and look through the little hole in the front as it starts. If you see the ignitor repeatedly glow then go off without lighting the gas, the problems with the burner (or you have no gas). If not, you can easily take the back off and check the fuses shown heresagacious.jpg

It has no heat when we turn it on we took it apart

you may need to light the pilot light at the valve going in to the dryer. If you have the owners manual it should tell you how to light it. Be careful it is not a hard thing to do but take caution and follow the steps correctly. If this has helped you don't forget to hit yes in the box and good luck friend!
