Nikon D70s Digital Camera Questions & Answers
Nikon d70s novice
I'm the same of you, only I went for the D40.
One general photography book that seems to be recommended by a lot of people is Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson (ISBN13: 978-0817463007 or ISBN10: 0817463003)
I've just bought a copy, so will comment with my own opinions later if you want :)
Can't really comment on D70-specific books I'm afraid.

My Nikon D70 camera takes pictures that come out completely black
Check the MODE. With ANY camera with manual mode you can take black (underexposed) photos all day. If photos are black try and use an AUTO mode. Typical it has a GREEN Camera symbol. So many things can be set wrong on the camera and they are beyond this answer.
Memory card appears full but its empty?!
Although formatting the card should take care of that, I have used cards to transfer data from one computer to another, then the folder on the card is invisible to the camera, but still taking up space. Empty the card via the card reader by dragging files to the trash, then emptying the trash.
R05 problem using d70, camera will not take a photo in autofocus
It is actually an
error message generated by your compact flash and means that the card is no longer readable. A lot of D70 owners have reported this error without being able to find another solution other than reinserting the card or changing the card to a different brand. You could also try cleaning out the memory card slot and check to see that all pins are aligned and not bent.
Good Luck,
Jeff
Opening RAW images from Nikon D70 on photoshop
A Photoshop Raw file is a Photoshop PSD file without a header. The header
information must be entered when the file is imported into Photoshop. The
raw format is used import and export bitmap data using a very simple,
uncompressed binary format.
My nikon d70 gives me a "For" error
If green LED is blinking constantly when camera is turned on, this is a
known problem with D70. Upgrade camera firmware from nikonusa.com
website.
My menu button is disabled, not working at all.
There is no way to disable the menu button. If the button does not function, it's broken and needs to be repaired, probably by Nikon. Given the age of the camera, repair will probably exceed its value. Sorry.
Tether Nikon D70 to l iPad and use as viewfinder
There are a number of apps that can do this for various cameras / models and different prices. I used an iPad2 to control my D7000 with OnOne Software and a laptop quite nicely. Have a look at this article for listings of products that work together with your hardware:

Best settings for portrait photos
Be sure auto focus is on; M/A on lens; AF on body (left of lens front side). Aim focus area on the closest eye. Use big opening on short tele lens, to get some isolation from background.
Idea: Use an (old) fixed focus lens 105 2.5 or 50 1.8.
During our visit to Paris/Disneyland
Based on the file size, the files in question are probably RAW, not jpg files. Nikon View NX software or Photoshop will be able to open those files. You may want to convert them to jpg files, but do keep the RAW files since they contain much more picture detail then the jpg files.
Replacing flash bulb
Nikon will fix it free if your camera is under warranty then they sendvit back.
