R60A heater will not come on. Check cicuit board
Hi, yes I would say you do. I can't give you an answer on what caused this to go out, I do know the board will have to be replaced. I have seen boards with no apparent damage to them be faulty. Replace it and you will be up and running again.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7
Unit runs fine until I put the cover back on and
These units have a flame detector that is color sensitive. Anything that changes the combustion, such as introducing more air (removing the cover) can affect the signal from the sensor.
I came across a posting elsewhere that claimed you must replace the nozzle frequently - the manufacturer recommends every year but, of course, that depends on how much you use the heater. They claim the nozzel wears and the sray changes from a mist or fog to a course stream and the poor combustion results in an off-color flame such that the sensor cannot detect.
There are generally 2 air filters, a mesh and a paper filter, and a fuel filter in the tank. Check these. Then check the fuel pressure and adjust if necessary. Instructions are here:

It must be accurate for these units to run properly. If you cannot get sufficient pressure, rebuild the pump.

Where do I get a pc board?
Hi, you can get a PC board at the Manufacture for Reddy Heaters. Online with model, serial, and product number if available. Or, find a dealer close by who sales and service all types of these space heaters and I am sure they can order one if they don't have one in stock.See if you can get the number off of the board if you haven't removed it yet.
Good Luck, and Sincerely, Shastalaker7
Ignitor lights, fan comes on,wont start ,has new
My guess is that your statement "won't start" refers to the flame (lack of). If this is the case then ask yourself if the unit is getting fuel. If NO fuel, check the pump rotor- it may be broken. If SOME fuel, then set the pump pressure. Air pump pressure is directly relayed to proper fuel flow. Instructions http://www.reddyparts.com/pressure.htm
When plugged in the heater makes a noise like it
If it were mine- and the heater has been inactive for several years, I'd check for a rat's nest inside. If clear, it's time for some serious troubleshooting. Remove the top cover. Is the fan turning?
Will not start
if it has spark and your sure of that, check for water/condensation in fuel tank, you could even have algae growing, yes (algae) in fuels and they will plug the fuel line, filter, nozzle, etc.
Will not start, no sound
Here are the things that you need to check, you may need to refer to the user manual of the Reddy heater:
1. Fuse - try to replace the fuse
2. Capacitor - test the capacitor if it's good.
3. Heat Pump coils - Heat pump coils are where most of the problems occur when dealing with a heat pump
You’ll need to check and turn on the main propane tank all theway. The last step is to press and hold down the safety valve buttonand press the ignitor button several times or until you hear theburner ignite.Once the burner is lit continue to hold the safety valve button for another 20 seconds or so, then let go.

Heavy smell
This is a fuel delivery problem. Look for:
- always start troubleshooting fuel problems on a Hot Surface Ignitor heater by checking the pump pressure!
- restricted fuel filter
- air leak
- restricted nozzle
Troubleshooting tips
I have a reddy heater
The R50 does not have a thermostat.
The 2 knobs that you mention- are they the screws in the black plastic end cover?
If so, these are the heartbeat of the fuel system and do not adjust. They adjust the air pump pressure which puts fuel in the nozzle and atomizes it. The pump pressure is critical. If the pressure is not correct the heater will shut down.
If you have adjusted the screw with a hole in it you will need to reset the pump pressure to specs. It's easy.

Now, if you have not adjusted the pump, then you might want to check the tank for water.
Troubleshooting tips
Does it have a themostat?
The R50 has no thermostat.
The two knobs... are they screws? In the round black plastic end cover? If so, do NOT adjust because they are not a thermostat, instead, this is the heartbeat of the fuel system. The air pump pumps fuel to the nozzle and atomizes the fuel. If you have adjusted the one with a hole in it you will need to reset the pump pressure. It's easy!
