Brother mfc is offline -

For my MFC, my PC says its ready and working properly. It really only works when I'm not connected to my cable modem. All PCs use it then. It's offline otherwise.

How to switch from "offline" status to "online" status

Hi,

I had the same problem with a Brother MFC-6490CW AIO printer. Here is how I resolved it:

Open the printers folder.
Right-click on the Brother printer and display the Properties page
Select the Ports tab.

In my system (Vista Premium), the selected port was a WSD port (whatever that means). Further down the list, there was a TCP/IP port that was obviously created by the Brother installation software. I selected the Brother-created TCP/IP port (which deselected the WSD port), applied the changes, and suddenly my printer was online. No idea what the difference between these two ports is, but I'll stick with the TCP/IP port until further notice.

Brother 8860DN won't work on Cisco switch

Go to the menu settings on the machine itself. Cycle through the options until you find the network settings. Make sure the device has network on and set the connection to DHCP on. save or back out and then restart the machine. It could also be a problem with your Cisco switch and the IP address ranges that the printer and switch have. You may need to specify an address in the printer settings to allow access through the Cisco switch.

Machine error. unplug and call brother

unplug the machine for 15 to 20 minutes then try again. If not then within 2 seconds hit the keys in this order:
Menu-2-8-6-4-* (star key to left of 0) this may take a couple of attempts, but you will know when you are there because the lights will start flashing.
"maint. mode" then hit:
9-1-"set
and finally 9-9-"set"
this should clear up the error message if there is not a problem with the fuser unit.

MFC8860DN SAY'S SCANNER LOCKED?? WHAT'S THE

Hello my friend. If you open the scanners door under the document cover is one switch that locks and unlocks the scanner.Move it to the position that shows that is unlocked. If this doesnt work it means the scanner lamp is in the park position and is stuck. You need to lean the printer away from the sheet feed side and bump it on the side. This should fix it. If it doesn't turn off the power and remove the two screws that hold the scanner lid on. Then remove the other 6 screws located under the lid on the left side while the lid is hanging from lid open sensor cable . After removing the base screws you can set the lid on the scanner again while you lift the scanner bed exposing the scan lamp mechanism. Push it a few inches in the machine and close the lid. You can do a test by powering the unit on and hold the lid open sensor button located on the bottom left of the lid. The system should initialize and bring the scan lamp back to the proper position. Turn off replace all screws and your done. If it doesn't work the first time push the scanner lamp more into the scanning area and repeat until works.

My brother MFC 8860DN printer

Open it up from the back of the machine. Try reseating the fuser first. If that does not help, then you need to replace it. Probably the ceramic fuser element is going bad? It is either not heating up fast enough or heating up too fast. If you can print test sheets, and the text is too shiny, it would be a fuser that is too hot. If you can rub the text off the test sheet, it is not fusing fast enough and there is not enough heat.

Try ebay for a fuser. They are fairly simple to replace.

I HAVE REPLACED TONER WITH THE CORRECT BROTHER TONER CARRTRIDGE AND THE MACHINE KEEPS TELLING ME TONER ERROR AND REINSTALL DRUM UNIT..HELP

Hi there, Below are instructions that I have found from the internet. Hope that they will help.
  • Open the front cover of the printer.
  • Hold down the Go button for 4 seconds until all the LEDs light up. Then release the Go button
  • Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
  • Replace the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back into the printer.
  • Close the front cover of the printer
  • Your drum unit should now be reset
  • MFC / DCP PRINTER SERIES 1.Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge. Wait 1 or 2 minutes. 2.Replace the drum unit and toner cartridge into printer. 3.The error message "Change Drum Soon/Drum end soon" will continue to appear if the drum counter was not reset when you replace the drum unit. 4.To clear this error message, you need to reset the drum counter as instructed below. 5.Make sure that the machine is turned on. For MFC users: To confirm you are installing a new drum, press 1. For DCP users To confirm you are installing a new drum, press the Up Arrow key 7.When the LCD shows Accepted, close the front cover. 8.Your drum is now reset. Resetting the drum unit will not improve print quality. It only resets your drum and allows you to continue to print. You decide when to replace the drum unit not the manufacturer!
