Troy-Bilt TB146 EC 4-Cycle Garden Cultivator Questions & Answers
After it cranks and runs when you give it gas it dies
sounds like bad gas or carburetor issue. drain all gas out and put in fresh. if it has a bowl on the bottom of the carburetor take it off and see if there is water or dirt in there. if it looks really bad you may have to take the carburetor of and clean it. this should make it run like new.
Replace pull cord
Easy to do - go to Utube and they have the instructional video on how to accomplish this. Hardest thing is to get the cord - Home depot only sells it in 50 foot lengths. But you can get a kit complete with handle for about five bucks same store.
Warm up time on a Troy-Bilt cultivator
I have a Cub Cadet 4-cycle cultivator and it takes a while to warm up as well. I assume that is the norm for those small 4-cycle engines. But it should not take more than 3-5 minutes to warm up enough to go ahead and start tilling. Unless of course you live in a fairly cool climate. In that case it may take a little longer. I live in Tennessee.
Rope pulls but does not trun motor
Recoil may be broken or seized up inside so it won`t work.
I had a lawn mower like that and tore the recoil off and had to repair the flippers inside. Mine had a broken pin.
Why is the rope starter not engaging the motor how do i fix it or do i need to return it
Try pulling the rope slowly until the starter engages the flywheel (you should feel when it engages) then give a good pull to start the engine. Don't give the rope a quick hard pull in one motion. You will probably need to do this three or four times before the engine starts. Of course push the primer button the number of times called for in your engine instructions before trying to start the engine. If you still don't think the starter is engaging the flywheel if would take it back where you bought it if it's new.
How to replace pull cord
take the 3 screws out of the housing they should be 10 mm or 7/16 or if it is really new try 3/8 Sockets take the cover off and you wil se the plastic housing tk the Screw Out of the Middle And you will see the Whats left of the cord tk it out and replace it with the new one and put it back in put th screw back in and before you but in back together turn the housing to you r Left And wind up the cord and put it in and away you go pull
Will not start
More information would be nice. How old is the cultivator? How long has it been since it last ran?
Possible causes for the primer bulb not to fill: 1. the bulb has a small hole in it (need to replace the primer bulb, usually a pretty easy job, just remove a couple of screws, remove the old bulb and install the new one). 2. One of the fuel lines may have a break or hole in it. If the cultivator is old enough a fuel line may have dry rotted and came apart.
A couple of things to try: Put fresh fuel in the tank then remove the air filter and put a few drops of fuel in the carburator then try to start the unit. If it starts an runs for a few seconds and dies the problem is the carb. is not getting fuel to the engine. If it still will not start check the spark plug. Is it fouled? Worn out or broken? If in doubt replace the plug.
