Can my CD-RW/DVD Rom Drive,
This model DVD/CD writer is a SATA drive and unless your motherboard has a SATA connector then you have a slight problem. You will need to purchase a SATA controller and install it into your PCI expansion slot, then connect your new DVD/CD drive to this SATA controller. You will also need a SATA adapter power cable converter which plugs into the 4 pin power connector.

Remove the device in device manager and re-boot the computer and let it detect and install the drivers again. This usually fixes the problem unless the drive itself is bad.

To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start , type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
- Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
- In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
- Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
- In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
- Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
- Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Use a high density CD-R or DVD-R disc not the RW (read-write) ones to sustain quality. Also, when you are using Nero, check the option "Verify Disc integrity" before clicking the "burn" command so that the disc will be verified on its data integrity after the burning process is completed.

Wont work
Dear
Mitodelvalle,
Here are few things that you might want to check:
- Open the chassis of the computer and make sure that the cables that go to the drive are properly connected .. there should be 2 connectors.. One for Power supply with 4 wires and one is a ribbon cable for data. Make sure that the power supply cable is properly connected. you might want to remove and plug it back just to be sure.
- If that doesn't work then most of the computers come with a spare power connector hanging loose, you might want to try the spare connector.
- Try ejecting the optical drive by inserting pin in to the small hole in the front of the optical drive, just below the tray... Straighten a paper clip and insert it straight into the pin hole below the optical drive's tray and the drive should eject, then pull the trey out gently with your hand and make sure that nothing is broken inside...
Try the above steps and that should help. If you still need assistance, please let me know and I would be glad to assist you further.
Regards,
Srinivas.
Cant read DVD in my DVD Rom
you can try a laser lense disc cleaner , something similiar to
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scotch%C2%AE-Laser-Lens-Cleaner-DVD/dp/B00006HZ2Z
I think there are better branded ones.
If that does not work then the laser lense for the dvd is not working / broken so will be easier to replace the dvd drive.
What kind of DVDs do I need
You should try a small package of both. the reason is not because of what burner you have but what you are going to play it back with. I have found that most lesser expensive dvd players handle +R better but most more expensive ones handle -R better.
It's an age old delema, for some +R for others -R but the it is the playback device that will dictate which medium to use not the burner.
CD problem
there must be a hole near to eject button..insert pin into it and it wl eject automatically...
Hp 300 n
I know your problem however it is easily fixed, the burner has worn out, the laser basically is not putting out enough light for it to work properly, the best and easiest fix, goto tigerdirect.com and replace the burner, they now start as low as 24.00 and go up to around 65.00 so it's not an expensive fix.
HP DVD/CD Burner 300n
Ok try this DO NOT insert the media until you have completed ya assembly... then tell it to "Burn" it will then ask for the media.. at this point insert ya CD... it should be "Detected" and ya Burn should proceed.I have had this work for me before.
Also try Alcohol 120% thats a great Burner. As well as CopytoDVD...
Unable to manually open the CD/DVD drive
There is a good possibility that the switch under the button has failed, especially if this drive has been used a lot. An electronics technician could replace the defective switch, but unless you have a good friend in that business, it will probably be cheaper to replace the drive with a new one.
