Making a grinding noise. It sounds like to printer
What you may find is that there is a large buildup of dried ink in an area on the right side of the printer that's jamming the head and making it sound like that. Open the top cover and look underneath where the pushbuttons are on the right side to find it.
It is the result of years of cartridge self-cleaning into a little sponge there - I used a pair of needle nosed pliers to get rid of it and my printer's back in action.
Error light blinks. Opening lid points to color
try cleaning the contacts of the cartridge and the cartridge carrier with a wet towel

My printer will not print. It says it is queued
Remove the printer from your PC, delete the printer, restart the machine. Attach the printer, preferably with a USB cable and not the parallel cable. If you already had it using USB, attach it to a different USB port. Reinstall using the Windows driver instead of the driver that came with the printer. Your printer should work after that.
HP970cxi 'pen failure' problem
From what I've read, it seems that a "pen failure" is a cryptic message to indicate a cartridge failure. Replacing your print cartridges should solve the problem.
The light on the left of my printer is blinking
hi, sometimes this results to documents that are pending and didnt finish to print. try to cancel the documents on the print tasks and try to unplug the printer then plug it again to get rid of the light and start printing again. hope this helps
Printer makes strange grating sound, stops and
I don't know if this will work for you, but I had the same problem... grating & metally sound. Removed color ink cartridge (almost empty) shook it up alittle, & put it back in. No more blinkling orange lite, or noise.
The printer isn't recognizing that it has paper
Hi,
The unit may have a paper jam or stuck object inside, if you
have experience a paper jam error before, check the printer for any
object or paper stuck inside, clean roller.
Some error like this can be a problem on the feeder sensor and by this time you may need to replace and repair the unit.

A blinking orange light means an empty or incorrectly installed ink cartridge. Ensure that the cartridge is not empty or dried out. Also be sure you installed the number 45 black and number 78 tri color cartridges. The 41 tri-color, for example, looks the same but would generate an error. Also, check that the panel in the back, or duplexer if you have one, is seated firmly in the printer as this can generate odd errors.
