Hp Mecia Center m7060n fan failed, new fan not detected

the fan must be the correct fan i guess you meant the CPU fan, ? desktops can have 2 or 3 fans. the fan has 3 wires, in many cases, the 3rd wire is a RPM tachometer that if not correct the PC can not read RPM if RPM reads 0 the PC will be very upset. and do that. my guess you bought the wrong fan, and is super easy to do giving the many fans on some PCs the BIOS monitors the fan RPM and heat sink temperatures, or both, and tells yous fan bad for either failing on my PC here, now, I can go in to bios and see both live sensors RPM and Temperature. this allows for easier diagnosis i dont think your PC has that page in BIOS to do monitors for trouble shooting, in fact mine has 3 fans all 3 are monitored, now. high end PC . this older desktop , only the m7200 pages are there. at hp. so cant look at the fan nor BIOS. i use a windows program that lets me watch the fan speeds and all CPU and GPU core temperatures. (ask) its free. the troubleshooting guide at HP stops short at this problem says get it fixed. so you want to fix it your self sure. so talk to one of the top, CPU/HEATSINK/FAN makers and buy this from them. if the fan spins fast and RPM is 0 wrong fant if the fan spins fast and RPM is ok, then the BIOS dont like the CPU temperature... this has 3 causes. fan dead. or slow. or wrong fan installed heat sink fins packed in lint as all do ever year. heat sink thermal bond compound failure, common.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530

I have a Dell Inspiron 530S, and it exhibited the same symptoms as rguggemos's & Wilburollie's.

I can put it to sleep, but when I try to wake it, it won't. The screen will stay black. I can hear the drives spin up, and the fans go on FULL blast, and the blue power LED stays flashing, but the computer will stay like that - no picture or anything. Then I'd have to press & hold the power button to force it off, then power back on. Not ideal.

The solution that worked for me?! On boot, at the "DELL" logo, hit F2 to enter the BIOS setup, go to Power Management, and change the standby mode from S3 to S1. The difference? S3 is a "deeper" sleep, w/ more components powered off, which is better, energy-wise, but it is more difficult to wake from. S1 is a "light" sleep. Give it a shot! Maybe it'll work!

Good luck!

- Mike

Stolen from another forum:

S0 (Working) is lit. The CPU functions in entirety; the conservation of power is on a basis of by-device.

S1 (Sleep). The CPU is stopped; The RAM is regenerated; the system functions in reduced power.

S2 (Sleep 2) The CPU does not have any power; The RAM is regenerated; the system is in lower mode of the S1.

S3 (Standby) The CPU does not have any power; The RAM regenerates at minimum; the power supply unit is in mode of reduced power. This mode is also called “Save to RAM”.

S4 (Hibernate). All is powered off, but the memory was saved like temporary file on the hard drive. This mode is called “Save to disk”.

S5 (Off) Everything is shutdown. Means you need a full reboot.

Hp media center will not

It could mean some internal component is damaged, and your desktop is simply unable to be powered on. However, make sure to check your power cable is plugged in, and power is actually switched on (check the back of your machine).

I installed Windows 7 and then found out the video

Yes you are correct in assuming that it is a video slot. It will have 15 pins in three rows. You can attach an additional monitor to it. But to be able to use this additional monitor you will have to right click on the desktop and select Properties->Settings. Here you will find two monitors displayed. This additional will be the No 2 monitor shown here. Click on it and select it as default.

I have an HP Media Center m7060n and am looking to

Well your motherboard will take upto 4Gb of memory but the problem is that board does not have a AGP or a PCI Express slot to upgrade the graphics. You can get graphic cards which fit in a standard PCI slot but if youre looking at a top gaming computer i dont recommend this. You really need to do a complete upgrade including motherboard, CPU, Memory and a good PCI Express graphic card. But before doing this i would have a good chat with a few PC shops at how much they can put together a new custom made computer for you and that way the PC you have is still complete to either sell or keep as a second computer. The computer will not turn. tested power supply

HI:
The motherboard is responsible for turnin on the power supply, if the power supply fan is working then the system has started it initinal POST procedure. Try disconnecting any phrephial devices from the unit, starting with the Harddrive DVD Drive Etc. Also you may have a bad video processor on the motherboard, that is causing no video.
