Refrigerator keeps freezing even though
How to Troubleshoot a Refrigerator Thermostat
- Check the easiest and most common potential causes first, which
is the best course of action in any troubleshooting case. With a
freezing refrigerator, this means checking the thermostat itself to see
if it is set at the right temperature.
Sometimes, other family
members may accidentally turn the dial, so just make sure that the dial
is not turned to the coldest setting. If the setting is correct and you
are still having your foods frozen, then you may have to troubleshoot
the workings of the thermostat.
-
Unplug
your refrigerator. Next, locate the control panel where the thermostat
is located and remove all of the items near it so you can work.
The thermostat is located directly behind the dial. You may need the flashlight to help you see inside the refrigerator.
-
Remove
the plastic cover that protects the controls. Some covers are screwed
into place while others are held in place by plastic clips. Depending
on your make and model refrigerator, you may have to first remove the
dial before you can take the cover off.
-
Turn the dial to the coldest setting. Remove the two leads (wires) on the thermostat.
Note: It helps to write down which lead goes where for when it's time to replace everything.
-
Set
the volt-ohm multimeter to RX1 and probe the terminals. By "probe," I
mean touch one of the multimeter's probes to one terminal on the
thermostat and the other probe to the other terminal.
You should
be getting a reading of zero. If you get a zero reading, then move on
to Step 6. If you do not get a zero reading, then remove the thermostat
and take it to an appliance store for a replacement.
-
Remove
the thermostat from the refrigerator entirely. Set the dial on the
thermostat to the warmest setting and place the thermostat in a working
freezer for 30 minutes.
After the 30 minutes are up, reprobe the
terminals and look for a reading of infinity. If you get the infinity
reading, then the thermostat is fine. Simply reinstall it, plug the
refrigerator back in and look for another cause of your freezing
problem, like dirty coils.
If you do not get an infinity reading (sideways "eight"), you should replace the thermostat with a new one.
Good luck.
Refrigerator not cold. The motor is blowing but
unplug the refrigerator. get to the compressor remove the cover on the compressor, remove the brown or white relay. the compressor also has an overload, but that maybe on the top or connected to the relay. remove the wires, remember where they go, shake the relay, if it rattles it's bad. you will need to get a solid state relay to replace the bad one..Good luck

Sounds like the condesor coil fan motor went bad and shorted in the windings or stator. It can be replaced fairly easily. You can get the mtor from one of the online part stores and install through the base of the unit next to the compressor. you should clean the area of lint while your down there, it helps keep it operating more efficiently. Not draining
Most likely a clogged drain tube. Blow it out with compressed air. This needs to be done preiodically since dust tends to clog these tubes.
Condensor getting power but not running
Bad overload/relay (part plugged onto the compressor ) Remove and make sure there is contunity between all 3 compressor terminals . See if there is continuity between the terminals and the copper tubing ( indicates a bad compressor ) . If all checks ok , then replace the o/relay .

Roper RT18SKXRD01 refrigerator not cooling
Hi: When this happens it means that there is frost built up in the back of the refrigerator. You are having an issue with the defrost heater or the defrost timer. There is an off chance the refrigerator's freezer is over packed with food and there is no circulation. If you're handy empty the fridge and take a hair dryer to the back wall to melt away the frost from behind. You will have to remove the back metal wall. Look at the heater. It will be at the bottom of the freezer behind the back wall. A glass tube with a wire coil running through it. If the coil is broken, replace it. If not you will be looking at a defrost timer. Sometimes on a circuit board. Searspartsdirect will have the parts and schematics. I hope this helps, Jeff
First our refrigerator would go on and off then
We are going to need to check a few things like the compressor, the start relay, start capacitor and thermostat. You will need a little patience and let me know when you are ready. I am leaving you my email as insurance your replies are returned to me so you don't think I ignored your need of assistance, Thank, Sea Breeze

GFI Trips when pluged in.
Hi, Are you unplugging the big black hard wire that goes under the evaporator coil in the freezer. If so, that is the defrost heater and it has gone bad. Please let me know if I can explain anything further.
Thanks

Refridge leaking water inside it...
Should be a little drain hole in the bottom rear of the fridge. Use a pipe cleaner or somthing similar cos it,s probably blocked. Quite a common problem.
Noise intermitently from top ( freezer section)
in the back there should be a small cover with vent holes in it,that holds on with 2-4 screws, take that off and you will see the fan.REPLACE the fan motor,it may or maynot come with a fan blade, the motor alone is about $60.00,get the model number from inside the fridgerator
Fridge keeps making "clicking" noise and will not get very cold
the clicking noise is probably the unit trying to start but it cant because its too overheated, try turning it off for about 30 minutes to cool the compressor down, then put the thermostat at 3 for the fridge and not the coldest for the freezer and leave it there for a few hours to stabalize the temperature and see what happens.
