CanoScan N1220U - Vista Driver
I have the solution. Download the XP driver from the Australia canon web page.
Extract the file with rar or winzip and install the driver from the device manager.
Choose the option where you can designate the folder where you extracted the files to and your up and running!!
It works just fine!!

The start button on my N1220U scanner no longer initiates a program. I have attempted numerous solutions.
You have to decide how much trouble you are willing to put into this problem. At this point you have deleted and reloaded the software and drivers, which is the most typical fix. The self test says it is functional but it does not physically test a bad switch. A replacement of this same model sells for under $30, including shipping, on ebay. CNET reports a release date of June 10, 2002. It may be time to move on since it cannot be repaired for the cost of a replacement.

CanoScan N1220U Scanner Windows 7 64-bit Driver
You may use Hamrick VueScan Pro, it installs a driver that makes 1220 to work. Or, if the version of Windows 7 you use support XP Mode, install it.
It's still a good scanner, and mine is working in 7 x64 using XP Mode!

Cant get window 7 drivers
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=DownloadIndexAct
there is a link to the download you need. If there is not a driver for windows 7 under your specific item, use the windows xp (service pack 3 if optional) driver download. Windows 7 in made to be 100% compatible with windows xp, not vista. just enter the info requested on that page and you are good to go. If the xp install is the only one available, download the file to your desktop (or somewhere you can find it), right click the icon, select properties, compatability, and then select win xp service pack 3 and save before you attempt the driver installation
GOOD LUCK AND PLS RATE THIS POST!!!!!!
p.s. if this doesnt work, pls be more specific with your model / device number
