Click here for the link.
Select your operating system from the list and download the driver/management pack from there... Install those driver/management application and then check for the working...
If still the problem persists, I would recommend you to download the firmware from the quoted link and update your device firmware....
This will definitely help you out (if there is no hardware problem in the scanner).

Fax waiting message on dell 1600n. will not print
This usually isn't a driver problem. Mine won't print-out a fax when toner is low - at what point is low, I don't know. To solve, go to Menu button and press until 4. Fax Feature is displayed. Press Left - Right button until 'Ignore Toner' is displayed and press Select button. Press Left - Right button until 'Ignore Toner - On' is displayed and press
Select button. The unit will then print 'Fax Waiting' pages.
Very faint copies even though there is a new toner cartridge.

The Dell 1600n printer driver has a toner saver mode, which can contribute to light
print.
To turn Toner Save Mode off, (Windows XP) perform the
following steps:
- Click the Start button, click Settings, and
then click Printer and Faxes.
The Printers and Faxes window appears.
- Right-click Dell Laser MFP 1600n, 1815dn, and left-click Printing Preferences.

Preferences window appears.
- Click the Advanced button.
The Dell Laser MFP 1600n, 1815dn
Advanced Options window appears.
- Click to
highlight Toner Save.
- Click the
drop-down list and change it to Off and click OK.
- Click OK.
If still a problem, you probably have a bad fuser.
The
fuser part for dell 1600N is - N5796
110V. To replace, unplug the machine
and remove the rear lower cover. Remove
four screws and the largest rear cover. The fuser is in view. Remove four more
screws and two plugs and remove the fuser. To replace, reverse the procedure.

all printers are come with a cd.that the cd has the printer driver and troubleshooting software...
So that the troubleshooting software has the information to solve the paper jam problem...

Document Jam in Dell 1600n
The Automatic Document Feed (ADF) has a white rubber pad that wears out. You can find it by opening the ADF cover and removing the roller bar. Under that is the white rubber pad. Pinch the sides together and the assembley comes out. Contact Dell for the replacement. You may also refer to the Dell 1600n Owners Manual for instructions.
Dell 1600n printer, how can I clean the platen glass?
you will need to take your printer plastics off to clean.4 screws on back panel take out then one screw on left side cover.take out paper tray open toner door 4 screws to remove,turn on side and on bottom there are 3 tabs both sides to remove side panels.one side has a speaker wire to unplug.take off display cover 3 screws to take out.lift off top cover and remove 4 screws 2 each side lift off platen and clean. reverse the order to put back together.take your time and be careful good luck
It say error JAM 1 what does that mean
Look inside printer to see af any paper is in there if so remove.Pull out paper tray and clean pickup roller (roller that picks up paper from tray)if the roller has film on it it will cause jam1 error
Severe lines appear on copies. The cartridge is
Most likely it's the toner cartridge. Remove the cartridge, turn it over and slide open the cover over the drum. The drum is the colored cylinder running from one side of the cartridge to the other. Do you see what appears to be the same streaks going around the drum? The drum should be completely clean and free of any lines or streaks. If it has lines or streaks then the cartridge is bad.
Only other possibility here would be the scanner glass. Make sure your streaks don't go away when making a copy from the glass. If they do you could have dirt or trash on your scanner glass.
