192.168.1.1 IP setting

Here are the recommended steps to connect to a wireless base router 1. Check and remove power from both your router and the DSL ROUTER/CABLE ROUTER MODEM 2. Wait one complete minute until applying power to modem then wait one minute before applying power to wireless router. 3. Ensure you have green lights across both devices, specifically, the recieved and sent lights. These same lights will tend to blink rapidly when there is active data, at times this will still blink, and a DNS error will prevent you from connecting to the internet. If this is the case, call your ISP Internet service provider 4. Check your authentication Security key on your router first, then check all your wireless devices to ensure they are on the same network name, key, and channel with the same type of encryption as the router 5. Start one device at a time and check for connectivity, if your still experiencing a problem, check the settings on all your wireless adapters, device drivers, internet browser settings, firewalls and proceed. 6. still have problems, connect a rj45 cable from the router directly to your computer to at least see if your wireless settings are bad or if the router may be bad. 7. Contact your ISP to determine if your receiving singal 8. Avoid using a splitter or parital power backup for yours routers 9. Still having problems, change your wireless router only after your ISP changes their faulty modem 10.Attempt the same process when setting up your new wireless router and or modem

Hi, I havent used my wireless

First:
In order to get your router back to the original settings, you must push in the reset button (usually on the back of the router) for somewhere between 10 and 30 seconds depending on the router. You may need a pin or something small to push in the button, because it can be recessed. Once you have reset the router, the username and password will be changed to the defaults, admin and password, respectively. One thing you must remember is that resetting the router will change all of the router settings back to the factory settings. This means you will lose all of the changes you made since you got the router. Make sure to write down any things you've changed, so you can change them back after the reset. Also, I recommend updating to the latest firmware after the reset.

Second:
There a great article at General Router Setup.
Third;
There is a great article at Working with Windows Wireless Networks

My father in law is

Follow these steps and you should be able to set up a password protected connection. (NOTE: You should use the cable that came with your modem as the connection will be lost until you reconnect to the wireless after setting up a password protected network. It is not mandatory but it helps to keep the connection to the router while you are setting this up.)
1. Open up your web browser and type 192.168.1.1 in the URL address bar and select enter. This should open up the web page for your router.
2.Input the user id and password. The default for both are admin.
3. The security setting should be under the Wireless menu option on the left of the window.
4. There should be an option to select medium or high securty levels. I would go with medium as it is easier to set up and should provide the security you are looking for.
5. There should be an input for a passphrase. Input a passphrase that is easy for you and/or your father in law remember as it will be needed to set up your wireless device on your desktop or laptop.
6. Select generate keys or it may generate them automatically when you type in the passphrase ( I am not sure since I don't own this particular brand of modem)
6. Write down the passphrase and 1 of the 4 keycodes generated to use later.
7. Exit your modem setup after saving your changes.
8. Go to Control Panel and select Wireless Networks
9. Double click on the wireless network connection
10. Select Properties
11.Select Wireless Networks tab
12.Highlight your wireless network and select Properties
13.Select the proper Network Authentication method (WEP)
14. Select the proper Data Encryption (TKIP)
15.Input one of the keycodes created in step 6
16. Close everything out and save.
17. Disable your device and then enable your device. This will cause it to reset. When it comes back up it should automatically connect to your network.

If you have to select WPA instead of WEP you will follow the same steps. Hope this helps. Here is a link to the online manual if you need it.

2. Go to the control panel then to network then check the properties of the TCP/IP procol properties to see if you have it set to "obtain an ip automatically"
also see if you have " DNS to obtain automaticall".
3.Unplug the ethernet cord for about 30 seconds the connect it back to the ethernet port.
4. check to see if you have a connection to the internect.
5. call your ISP to see if you line has had any disconnects or maintenance.
6. check the router status ( this will tell you if you have disconnected from the ISP 's server and need a possible reset .
7. Do a ipconfig /all to see if you have the "media disconnect" error > this is done by going to the command prompt and typing "cmd" enter then you DOS prompt will show.
8. check you status lights on the router to give this information to the tech when calling your ISP to walk you through a reset or check the connection on the DSL/ CABLE line.
I hope this helps. Have a great day!ormation to the tech when calling your ISP to walk you through a reset or check the connection on the DSL/ CABLE line.

Hi. My friend has bought a new Asus adsl

A WAN is a wide area network. basically what allows you to connect to the internet. RJ45 is your phone line going to the DSL modem/routers internet port.
If all your lights appear to be working fine and your internet light shows activity i would do a double check to make sure your NIC is connected and not limited. Also make sure all your filters are in place on all the phone lines in the house except the line running to the dsl box.

Router Password forgotten

Pam, there is no way to retrieve just the password. You have to reset/reconfigure the router. Have you done router setups before? If not, I suggest you get someone to help you. If you want to try anyway, then have the printed manual next to you as you step through the sequence. Make sure you connect a PC to the router using an ethernet cable & confirm that the PC connects to the router. Admin is the user id. The factory default password is often "password" or "admin", but check on the manufacturer's site to be sure. Let me know if you have questions about any part of this.

You need to configure your router.
For that Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link.

What is and how do I get an IP address to hook up a router?

If you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work?
If that works then the modem is working.
Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router.
You can set up the router without the CD also.
It is very easy.
