Ricoh Aficio 220 Laser Printer Questions & Answers
Our company has a Ricoh
Something is misaligned but even an expert could prolly say what only by looking at it. If that happened to me I'd ask several Ricoh service centres what to do.
If you're very lucky, one will tell you over the phone to adjust this or that and hey presto!
Otherwise, call out the first centre that seems to really understand the problem and is willing to talk your through some possibilities, rather than just saying they'll come and look...
Hi i get a set counter on my 220 what does that
I think it means that the machine is set up for a key counter , you need to enter the engineers service program mode and set copier 5 - 113 from 1 to zero.If you don't know what you are doing with the service program mode be very careful, if you get lost turn the machine off at its switch then start again.enter service mode through the control panel -- press in sequence yellow button , 1, 0, 7 , press and hold orange button for at least 3 seconds - this should enter mode, repeat if it doesn't. press 1 to select copier OK, 5 to select mode OK , scan through using the previous and next buttons to 113, OKpress 0 then OK to change .exit mode by pressing exit repeatedly until normal screen appears

There is likely toner on the laser shield glass. The laser shield glass is located just below the toner hopper -- should be covered by a small plastic cover held in by 1 screw. Remove this screw, pull off the cover, and gently slide the glass strip out. Clean the glass with a dry lint-free cloth then reinsert it and put the cover back on. Your blank strip should be gone.

Hi, the message automatically goes away when you install the new photoconductor unit. Until you install the new unit, the message will remain on the screen, but it won't affect operation at all -- you can still use the copier just like normal; that message will just keep popping up.
The machine keeps a counter for how long the photoconductor unit has been in use, and around 60,000 copies or so it displays that message so that you know to replace the unit soon. You can keep the old unit in as long as you want, but eventually you will probably start to see a degradation in copy quality -- faint lines, spotting, dirty background, and/or light copies.
If you don't already have a new photoconductor unit on hand, the EDP code if you want to order one is 410423. I would recommend getting a genuine Ricoh photoconductor, because third-party units have been known to create problems on occasion.

Probably not much you can do yourself....as there are 2 possibilities here. First there is the possibility that you have lost fusing pressure. The fusing unit in this machine using a combination of heat and pressure to "fuse" the toner onto the paper. You may have broken a fuser frame which is a common problem on the 220. This cause the fusing rollers to loose their pressure against each other and thus stop fusing. This usually causes poor or no fusing more on one side than the other. You might want to let me know if the toner wiping off is consistent accross the entire page.
The other possible cause is your thermistor set is bad. The thermistor reds the temperature of the fuser rollers so the machine knows when they are up to the proper temperature for fusing. I some circumstances I have seen them go bad and always register to the machine that the fuser is hot enough when it is not.
Either way you are going to have to be comfortable with removing the fusing unit from the machine and then dis-assembling parts of it in order to repair it. If you are interested in trying this you can reply to this post and I can at least give you the part numbers you might need depending on what you find.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.
