Have you tried pointing the remote at a digital camera? This will show the infra-red signal coming from the remote. If the remote is OK, it may have been set to an alternative mode.

Are you sure that the dish hasn't moved, or that there is something impeding the signal to it? Sometimes leafs on trees can be the cause of a drop in signal strength.
When it was first set up, it asked for a postcode. This is used to set the region. I suspect that you bought this used or as a refurb, so it was set to the London area. I suggest a factory reset (your recordings will not be affected) so that you can set it to your postcode.
