THis happened to my Tecra M4 4 times in 4 years. Each time was a motherboard replacement at the tech repair shop. Each time cosint about $600. I have heard of the heating method to reflow the solder but don't know how to do it. Others have paid for the motherboard replacement and modded the GPU fan to constantly run. I may get it fixed once more and try using a laptop cooler to keep it from overheating again. Because it is soldered on to the motherboard, they replace the entire board.

Attach an external monitor to your vga port and see if you can see anything if you can your screen is faulty and will need replaced. If it doesn't work on the external monitor your system board maybe faulty even with the fan and diskdrive working. If its under warranty get it fixed for free if not buy a cheap one online. Hi there, if it' a BIOS password (black screen and white writing) you have to remember it, otherwhise you have to bring it in for assistance. They have tools to reset the password.

It would be oen of three things... in order of cost;

1. LCD Invertor has gone bad
2. SCREEN has gone bad
3. Motherboard has gone bad

In either of the three it would most likely take a toshiba tech to pinpoint exactly the problem and do the repair. Although if you are handy enough you can get the parts and repair it yourself.

Nope there is nothing you can do. A reddish cast to the screen is a common indication that the backlight that illuminates the screen is going south.
