There is an infrared sensor inside the tv to receive infrared signals transmitted by the infrared signal generating light emittin diode fixed on your remote control. Either the sensor inside the tv or light emitting diode in the remote controller faulty, remote function will not work. hi
artbsts,
Thanks in advance for choosing Fixya for assistance.
One way to tackle these problem is to have all the connected
cables, disconnected. ( But be sure , have it noted , so you
can bring it back later. )
Of course , you may need to unplugged it, and let it be for a few
minutes.
While it is unplugged, Have a look at the back of the TV and note
down the Model and Make of your XBR TV. These information
will be much needed if the initial troubleshooting won't do.
There could also be flashes on the LED on the front panel
that you might notice, these will also help us to narrow down
which are the possible locations of the trouble you are having.
I would not advice yet to open the unit , but it might be later needed
so as to help you further. If you feel you van work on these
circuits, then you might as well be needing some tools and equipment
but a good visual and a good sense of hearing is preferred initially.
These might be long already, try having it plugged to a known
good working outlet, who knows it might work.
Let me know , how it does when you try to plugged it, when you turn the
unit on and when the unit is turning off by itself
Regards,
palaboy

When I turn on the TV, I get a light green picture
My thoughts is that your CRT - Tube is going out.
May be time to think of replacing it.
There is what is called an electrical Gun in the back of the tube. This is what will emit the Green, Blue and Red electron beams on the front of the screen. Sounds like something has been damaged in this gun area.
Blessings,

Sony KV-34BR800 TV intermitent startup problem
try cleaning small lens on end of remote and receiver window on t-v (usually a small plastic covered window- on the front). if still have problem- could be you need new batteries in remote, or button on remote needs cleaning. a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol (91% or better!) use very little alcohol- just damp! may have some crud around button.
good luck!

No picture no sound
Forward voltage/current problem....needs a new board....You might try unplugging it for a few hours...If the TV starts you will need to leave it on until it gets repaired or replaced.

Current Service Manual Link for KV-34XBR800 Sony TV
No you don't have a bulb problem...I think this is a overvoltage or overcurrent error B+ OVP/OVC......It could be problem with 1 of three different boards.
Most likey part has gone out of spec and the TV is powering down producing the six blink error.
I would recommend having TV tech. fix the problem or start shopping for a new TV.

Picture bowing in center
This is a convergence problem. Look for poor connections at the convergence ICs. Try resoldering the pins on the ICs. If that does not resolve the problem, replace the ICs.

T.v
The STANDBY light is flashing on the television and there is no picture or sound.
Solution
The STANDBY light will flash if an issue is detected within the television. This can sometimes be resolved by simply following the steps below to reset the television.
- Turn off the television.
IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
- Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
- Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
-
Turn on the television.
If the issue is still unresolved after following all of the troubleshooting steps,
service may be required. Please note the number of times the STANDBY light flashes and relay that information to the service center.
