The display maybe broken and not working and has quit working and you can replace the display screen or use it then with only the display screen is not working.

Something must be jammed so a trip to a Technician will resolve that. This is one of the reason I never buy changers of any kind because over the years I have had to fix so many cartridge, platter and other changers that are all designed poorly enough to make the 90 day period but not last too much longer. The Sony ES models are the best but they were big money back then- I have a broken one in my shop now.

Could be some dust or debris in the unit. Also be careful that you are not putting fingermarks near the hole section of each CD you put in, as the CD plays from the centre out.

Do the lights come on, on the front?

Hi There are many things that can cause your problem, I can tell you the most likely ones, but I recommend you don't take the unit apart, as the mech. in a 300 disk changer is complicated & delicate, and you may just cost yourself alot more money than getting it repaired. The symptoms you sescribe can be caused by failing laser pickup, dirty laser lense (especially if you've done home renvations with drywall), split drive gear that moves the laser on the sled rails, or even a hair or piece of dirt in the gear teeth of that same gear. The unit will play fine, until it hits the tooth where the debris are, then it skips, or jumps back a bit and starts again until it hits the same spot. Also..badly scratched or finger printed disks will cause that, but that is the first thing most people check. I wish it was something you could repair yourself, but my best advise is to take it to a reputable repair shop, and hope it is not a bad laser, as that is a fairly expensive repair. These models often get broken loading parts in front of the pickup assembly. If you could take a good picture of the front of the mech, I may be able to identify what is broken.

The belt in the back of the player under the hood is either broke or has came off the rollers. You will need to take the top off and replace the belt a rubber band will work as a temporary fix till you can order a new belt.

Maybe the opto sensors around the carousel are dirty or not working, the machine needs to know what position it's at for selecting the right number

The belts last about 15 years, less depending on usage. Sounds like it's time for a belt replacement. Check out softduds on eBay, he can replace belts and adjust these players, he has lots of experience.

Sensors on side of carosel not working or a fault on one of the boards

Not easily. You basically have to take out the turntable and everything above it. Then you have to make sure the gears are aligned properly as you do it. Not a job for the faint-hearted. I would strongly recommend having a pro do it. There's a guy on eBay, softduds, who does this very well and I would recommend him highly. He really knows these units and can calibrate to factory specs, in the process replacing all the belts.

Get the power supply checked by someone competent
