DE-1793 Radar Detector - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Stopped working
What stopped working? Does the unit power up? Is there no sound? Will the unit not alarm any more?
If it stopped working, did you check the fuse in the units' power cord or the vehicles lighter socket fuse?
If not sound, does all the other lights and buttons function? if so, is the volume control turned up?

Does not sound alarm till its to late
The lower end Whistler radar detector models do not have particularly good performance against all radar gun frequencies. Whistler's XTR-690, Pro78 and XTR-695 on the other hand do perform very well against all police radar guns. Its basically a matter of you get what you pay for.
Sound
if the unit is over 3 years old you can order a speaker by calling 800-531-0004.
No Sound
whistler wanted $55 to repair this detector, so I bought a different brand and will never buy another whistler again.

How to perform a factory reset on whistler WS1025 scanner
Configuring Your Scanner
Preprogrammed Frequencies
Your scanner includes 153 preprogrammed
frequencies, which you can load into Channels
1 to 153. For a list of these frequencies, see
"Preprogrammed Frequency List" on page 23.
To load the pregprogrammed frequencies:
1. Turn off the scanner and then turn it on again.
2. While WELCOME message appears, press PGM.
3. Load -Fr- appears, then YES--Ent and No --
CLEAr appear alternately.
4. Press ENT to load frequencies or CLEAR to
cancel.
Programming Channels
If you do not have a list of frequencies in your area,
refer to www.radioreference.com.
1. Press PGM. PGM appears.
2. Enter the channel number (1-200) where you
want to store a frequency, then press PGM again.
3. Use the number keys and • to enter the frequency
(including the decimal point), then press ENT.
4. To program the next channel in sequence, press
PGM and repeat Step 3. To program a specific
channel repeat Steps 2 and 3..
• Your scanner automatically rounds down to
the closest valid frequency. For example, if
you enter 151.473, your scanner rounds it to
151.470.
• If Error appears and the scanner beeps three
times when you press ENT, start again from
Step 2.
• If the frequency is already stored in another
channel, the scanner beeps three times and
displays -dUPL- (duplicate) and the lowest
channel number where the frequency is already
stored. Press TUNE/CLEAR to cancel. Press
ENT if you still want to store the frequency.
What's vg2 mean on 1530 Whistler
The VG-2 button is to engage VG-2 Cloaking Technology. From what I can see VG-2 Cloaking Technology is a way the detector has of avoiding being detected by authorities in areas where the use of radar detectors is prohibited. I am not in a position to say how effective this is, I suggest you refer to reviews. I have only researched the meaning of VG-2.Rider here: Please do your own research on the effectiveness of this technology on this - or any - detector.Of course the best way to avoid being picked up for speeding is not to speed. (But you knew that..)
