You have got yourself into a tricky mess there. The mechanism was set up in a certain way. When you extracted the tape, it sent the mechanism into the wrong position. There is also a switch called a mode switch that is linked to the mechanism and the electronics of the video. This switch tells the electronics what mode the video is in - IE: fast forward etc. This is now out of position and the whole mechanism needs to be set up in the correct position, assuming there is no faults, and so does the mode switch. However the bad news is that unless you have the service manual you have little chance of setting it up right. Most video's for example are NOT set up in the eject position for a start, so unless you have the instructions, you will never get it to work right.
