ASUS K52n-a1 Notebook Questions & Answers
My compaq is power on for 2 second and off , how to fix is thank you
You need to print this out-on someone else's computer. Hope it works for you!Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Compaq
Presario F700 laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to
discharge any residual current inside the Compaq Presario F700 . This
clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and
charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your Compaq Presario F700 laptop
on.
Boot in "safe mode". As it starts up press F8, the computer ask you if
you'd like to start in safe mode. Highlight "safe mode" and press enter.
See if your laptop is booting up ok .
If your Compaq Presario F700 boots ok, do the following,
Try System Restore first,
Start Menu->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System
Restore. Choose the most recent date before you the encountered problem.
If it doesn't work, try the next date.
If System Restore does not fix it, as a last resort, you might need to
fdisk, reformat your laptop hard disk clean and reinstall OS, that
usually fixes all bugs. Before going that route, try following,
Uninstall unnecessary programs and applications.
Scan with a antivirus program
Scan with a spyware/malware program
DEFRAG C:
CHKDSK C:
Clean up and repair registry problems with registry repair software of your choice
If the problem persists, did you check if it could be your Compaq
Presario F700 laptop power cord or power source problem? Defective or
insufficient power supply might cause error messages that are
misleading. Take the battery out and power on your laptop with the
charger only. Make sure your Compaq Presario F700 power jack and charger
plug tip are securely connected. Did you notice the power jack loose?
You can find laptop power jack on ebay. Fixing and soldering the power
jack requires professional skill though. The charger green/blue LED
should be on. If not, replace the defective charger. Compaq Presario
F700 laptop battery charger, especially its power cord/cable, lifespan
is limited and does not last forever, consider buying a lifetime
warranty charger online from company like www.topmic.com

Some webcams and programs require additional software, although that should be installed with the webcam if things are right.
But is does not harm to check if your Java, Flash and Quicktime software are installed and up to date.
But certainly check your DirectX software, since all video applications, including webcams, use DirectX for video processing.
Try downloading the latest DirectX version and install it (Windows XP: DirectX 9.0c - Windows Vista: DirectX 10).

How do i get to my webcam
Normally there is software either on your desktop or in the program list that references your webcam. Click Start/Programs and look for any references to the webcam. Sometimes it might be hidden in a ASUS Folder in the program list. You can always download Manycam and install it. Go towww.google.com and in the search box type: "download.cnet.com"(without the quotes). Click on the link to go to the site. When thesite opens look down on the left and you will see a gray area that says FindSoftware. Type "Manycam" (without the quotes) in the whitesearch area then hit the search mirror. When it brings back your resultslook for the one that says ManyCam Virtual Webcam. Down load it andinstall it. Make sure you remove the check box on any junky programs itwould like to install. You only want to install ManyCam, no additionswhatsoever during the install. ManyCam is totally FREE and easy to use,and you will always know where your webcam software is.

I don't know why but
Yes you are correct. It is because of earthing issue. Laptop has 3 pins out of which 1 is Earthing, 2 is positive and 3 is negative. Out of 3 pins, 2 pins will function properly however for Earthing, it is necessary to have some arrangement at your place. Please get earthing solution implemented and then plug the laptop power cord into power socket. Else you will face the shock and it may happen that your laptop's internal part may get damaged. Thanks,Amar
My Asus Altec will not
There is no reset as such, however you can try the old trick of removing the battery and ac adaptor, pressing the power on button and holding for 30 seconds, then reconnecting the mains supply (not battery) and see if it will then boot.
If this fails, you need to check the following:
- check the power supply, the led should be bright green and not flashing, if it is, suspect the power is not reaching the laptop.
- Check the security of the dc jack as it enters the laptop, if loose or sloppy, the jack port will need replacing
- With a multimeter set to 20 volts, and the power supply plugged in, touch the RED terminal of the meter to the INNER part of the jack and the BLACK terminal to the outer of the jack. Getting less than 20 volts (give or take a couple of volts) means the adaptor is not putting out power.
- If this fails, and / or you try another adaptor and it fails also, you will need to open the laptop. (google for a manual on this or you tube video)
- On the motherboard, there will be a small ceramic fuse near the DC jack, using a multimeter set to OHMS, touch one probe to to one side of the fuse and the other to the opposite side, you should get a reading, if not, the main fuse is blown and will need replacing. (There may be another fuse near the battery, test this also to prove the battery circuit is working)
- If the fuse gives a reading, I THINK this laptop has a DC jack with wire to motherboard not soldered onto the board, again using the multimeter set to OHMS, probe the positive (inner part of the jack socket) and connect the other probe to the terminal that connects to the motherboard (positive terminal) There may be 4 connections, 2 neg and 2 pos.
- If the test fails, replace the socket.
After that, the likelihood is that there is a fault on the board and will need more specialist investigation
