This is due to a faulty convergence power supply or voltage supply to the convergence board, first thing to check is the deflection board this the board to the right of the unit look at if from the back.
Check all connection on the flyback and resolder is any cold solder joints are found. Also there are tree micro fuses the may of blown if there are any bad connection around the flyback.

Try to check for any busted fuse inside the power supply section.

The tv was shutting down then because the filtering capacitors have aged, their internal resistance has dropped and they were draining more current thru them when hot that what the power source was capable of delivering.
The crack that you heard has been a capacitor that has finally failed the big way - it has exploded. When that happens the entire power source goes haywire and the tv stops. Unplug it immediately from the wall, the longer it stays powered the greater the damage becomes, and call a repairman - there's nothing more you can do.
If you're lucky all that will have to be replaced are all the aged capacitors (if one has failed, the others can't be far behind) for a total bill of around $200.

Continues text display on some particular section of picture could burn phosphors layer in picture tube front and I'm afraid it is permanent damage that can not be removed unless you replace picture tube in tv that is of course costly fix for rear projection tv because rear projection consist of three picture tubes of basic colors (red-green-blue).
It is irrecoverable loss of phosphors layer in picture tubes, I'm sorry for that.
Either live with that faint headline image in tv picture or get new tv.

double vision? is this multicolored. red green blue? is the picture bowed. Have you tried going to setup in customer menu and adjusting convergence, Both manual and autoconvergence.

The bad news... Checked with several distributors we do business with and none have them listed anymore for purchase.

The good news: As a shop owner I know I have at least 6 or 7 used one that fit that tv. I bet your local tv shop has several as well. If someone came to us asking for one, we would simply give it to them as we have no use for it. I bet you local guy would do the same or charge no more than a couple of dollars..

You can always splice in a new one where the old ones damaged. Go to Lowes or local hardware and the will have the connectors needed. No special tools required!

Replaced the capacitor on the power board,see if green gun come back.Green gun might be dead.

The tv have a problems known as a convergence problems it,dead.The tv colors lines R,G,B mis alignment,have colors shadows pictures or 3D look like pictures.The tv convergence board the 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors are dead.These parts on the tv convergence board,must be replaced to solved the tv picture convergence problems.The shop,will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.

this is not a fuse. the fact that you have a green light means its not a fuse. this is more likely a capacitor or a shorted transistor as far as price that is all dependent of what a tech find our shop general charges 80 to 100 to come to your house + any parts that are required

An HDMI cable, or RGB cables are what is needed. You can sometimes use the yellow video cable, but quality is poor.

generally this model shut it self down if anything major. possible reason for a delayed shutdown is bad capacitors. or loose connections. does the picture display any abnormalites before shutdown. does it come right back on when you push power button. any sounds or smells? how long has this been doing this?

Go to Menu then setup Look for Convergence if you do not see convergence listed,Then you have a blowed fuse on the Deflection board. It is the bottom board on left hand side it will have the FBT flyback Transfomer and on the Right Side of the FBT is 3 fuses right in a roll they will look lijke small brown retrangler Caps BUT are Fuses 0.6amp. It will be the Middle Fuse.

Heres another thing you can try with TV off Press and hold Vol- and CH- at same time hold untill TV comes on Now look for Auto Convergence.
