Thermostat going dim

Try replacing the 9 volt battery in the thermostat. Clean the terminal with a #2 pencil eraser to get rid of any corrostion.

If that isn't the problem, then something in your thermostat is getting ready to fail and pulling more power which makes the light dim. Unfortunately, the boards are not usually locally avaiable and will need to be ordered, so you might want to consider replacement versus repair.

I am replacing a 10 year old Honeywell Thermostat

You are on the right track, you can hook the same 4 wires to the new thermostat without the jumper you had on the old thermostat. The jumper wire that is on the new thermostat can stay with no problems. Just connect the wires to the same terminals on the new one and your good to go!
